The Moon tonight and imaging the Orion Nebula

Hello all - do you think the proximity of the full moon tonight will adversely impact on my attempt to image the orion nebula?

I've been wanting to have a go at this target for ages and its the first clear/still night in ages.

i imaged orion nebula a few nights back with a nearly full moon very close by and managed some nice detail imo.btw i was first go at dso imaging,i would say try it for yourself hope u get some good results

You won't pick out any of the fainter detail - it will be wiped out by the sky glow caused by the moon. However, M42 is the brightest nebula in the sky so you will be able to capture a fair amount of nebulosity. I'd say give it a try, even if not ideal it's all good practice!

Keep the length of subs low as you will get loads of glow and washout / gradients from the moon.

Personally, I would not colour image tonight anywhere in the same region as the moon.

That said, I just finished some Ha narrowband subs on the Horsehead, so go narrowband if you have the filters.

Thanks for the responses. I had a go in the end. It was good practice - especially as its been a while since I've tried guiding.

Had my usual guiding woes - which was very frustrating!

Here is mine last week in about 1/2 moon even closer to Orion than it is now.

The luminance was a total washout and could not be used.

But these were only 3 minute subs

Very nice! I like your interpretation.

I'm using the Atik Titan so when it comes to targets like M42 I miss having a larger chip.

Despite its brightness M42 is a tricky customer to get right
