To coincide with BBC Stargazing live this year Worthing Astronomers will be holding 2 public events on the 19th and 20th of Jan. See attatched poster or visit the web site in my sig for more details

The first of our Stargazing live public viewing events went well with an estimated turn out of around 80 to 100 people over the course of the evening. Although we had a couple of cloudy spells by and large the skies were good giving us great views of Jupiter, Pleiades and the Orion neb. Lots of interest from young and old and we had a good selection of scopes ranging from 4" upto Adrians impressive 10" LX200 mixing manual mounts and goto. Fingers crossed for the 2nd event tonight but so far the weather looks like it will be against us

It was a great night, despite the weather. Seeing the reactions of people getting their first look through a scope was really good. It kind of made it all new again - I'm smiling just thinking about it :)

We went into last nights event with low expectations. We arrived at the location under overcast skies and decided to give it an hour. Our patience was rewarded when jupiter and venus started to wink in and out of view so we decided to set up which was the right decision as a nice patch of sky cleared and allowed the 20 or so members of the public to see jupiter, plieades and the orion neb. With only 2 scopes out we were kept busy for the hour and half we had before the cloud was back. All in all we were happy with the end result and glad we managed to wow people again. Looking forward to the next one!!

Hey tiddles. Go to the website in my signature and sign up. All dates are updated on the website and if you sign up you will get the monthly news letters with the dates direct to your email address. Also if your on facebook search for worthing skywatchers as dates are put on there too. We are looking at an observing session for mid feb but date not confirmed yet
