Hello Chris and welcome to SGL, you are not the only one to suffer Hull's horrible light pollution, it's okay for lunar, planetry and doubles but somewhat lacking for DSO's.

Decent skies can be had in 30 mins so don't despare!

Hi Chris, welcome from sunny Swindon, you will be surprised at what can be seen in light-polluted skies, even with binos, just take a look on a clear night.
