Difference between the old and new cg-5?

A few years ago I bought my c9.25 on a cg-5 and aluminium tripod. This turned out to be quite wobbly, as is well known.

I see that they now sell the cg-5 on a steel tripod and even bundle it with C11 OTA.

Is this the only difference between the old and new or did they upgrade the actual mount too?

I actually did those improvements to mine when I bought it. It looks like I have the old new mount ...... with the added bearings.

Unfortunately, the only improvements he mentions in the latest version is the added GOTO and steel tripod. Perhaps this means that they are the only changes made, I don't know.

There was the addition of an RA bearing, the worm gear and end bearings were improved and it now sits on a 2" stainless steel tripod.

It's a lot smoother and is said to hold a higher payload than it did.

I may try and get a steel tripod for the one I have and upgrade to an eq6 at some point in the future.

The new CG5 and EQ6 use the same 2" stainless steel tripod legs but the tripod adapter is different. You can use a EQ5 & HEQ5 on a CG5 tripod but not EQ6.

I hadn't even thought of that, but it's good to know.

All the mounts I've seen come with a tripod anyway.

Damn I wish it would clear up so I can stop drooling over gear.
