astrofest 2012.... whats it like?

iv been reading my uni timetable and it appears this is a recommended thing for me to go to, whats every one whos gone

also, does any one recamend the conferences and speakers?

I've managed to get down for the Saturday sessions the past couple of years and thoroughly enjoyed them. Hoping to make Friday as well this year. t's worth booking in advance if you do go, as the Saturday sessions do seem to sell out before the day.

Hi Gaz, I go every year, lots to see for all types of astronomers, visual, imaging and armchair. As the previous post says, best to book the lectures. For the exhibition itself, just turn up and buy a ticket on the door. Well worth going.

I like the Astrofest weekend, and take in the last session of talks, which invariably are very interesting.

Drooling over the kit on display is exciting too.

Besides, meeting many SGL friends is a massive bonus.

It was packed on the Saturday when I went this year. I'm looking at booking Friday off and hope that it's a little easier to get to the stands and talk

Three floors of astro goodies plus lectures. Well worth visiting. Currently being advertised in this mointh's Astronomy Now mag.

Went on the Friday last year and wasn't overly impressed with the talks. Just didn't grab me. Something seemed missing as if they were running through a script at times and not giving a talk.

The equipment on show is good, best not to look too close, could get expensive.

thanks guys. on the astrofest website it says about the conferences.... about booking each one, but it only says 1,2,3 or 4 how do i go about picking ones i want, or is it decided on the day

i take it saturday is the ideal day then

Each session is a group of lectures running half days so four sessions equeals the full two days.

Just checked my Nov Astronomy Now, tickets for the exhibition only, are available on the door at £6 adults, £3 children.

I usually spend half the time chatting to old mates, the rest of the time drooling.....

The conference tickets are usually arranged in 4 sessions: Fri AM, Fri PM, Sat AM, Sat PM, and you have to say at booking time which you want. They are not transferable.

Mrs BA and I normally make a weekend of it. Train down to London Friday night, me drooling at kit on Saturday while she hits Oxford St, show in the evening, sightseeing and back home Sunday, my rucksack usually dragged onto the train due to increased weight of kit!
