Hello and welcome to the forum!

How about these:

The Haynes Astronomy Manual - A good introduction to the subject starting with the basics.

The Practical Astronomer - A Dorling Kindersley book, similar to the above.

The Backyard Astronomers Guide by Terence Dickinson & Alan Dyer - Similar to the above but bigger and does go into further detail, a very good book!

Hope these suggestions help!

Turn Left at Orion is a field guide. It'll help you find things but isn't so much of an armchair read. You might find "Seeing in the dark" by Timothy Ferris to be more up your street. It's not an astronomy guide, but a description of what it's like to explore astronomy. There're plenty of facts thrown in too, of course.
