Akyra
I am trying to convert my webcam for use on my scope but am having problems. Could someone maybe help me out?http://www.astronomy.com/ASY/CS/forums/340009/ShowPost.aspx - This is where I post also before I found this place. geppetto
Had a quick look on the link and it does seem to be the cursed "not enough in focus"As was suggested, a barlow should sort that out but will reduce the FOV.Could you take the whole circuit board out of the camera case and fit it into a custom boxwith the CCD near to the surface where your film case adaptor fits. This would put the CCD nearer to the secondary in use and so give you a bit more "in focus"
Akyra
Ah, good thinking! thankyou for your help I will try it out and see what happens
GazOC
If you are near to focussing try collimating the Newt as far up the tube as possible.
Kaptain Klevtsov
From one of the pictures I think you could tidy the tape up and get the tube further into the focuser. Looking at the pylon image, you're only a mm or five off where you need to be.Hope you get it sorted.Captain Chaos
Akyra
I just cut off quite a bit more of the film canister. This is my telescope pointed to Venus with the focussed racked all the way in, I can still cut off about 2 more centimeters so I will and try again. Akyra
Ok, I had another go with the much shortened film canister (it barely holds in the focuser!)This is of an electricity pylon (the only damn thing I can see from my back garden in the day), I took this from inside my house, through a window and its really hot and sunny outside. These are the settings I used to capture this image.I tried it last night on the moon, but the image was so bright and could not pick up any detail whatsoever. Also, what are the dark dots? I think one is the small black circle in the center of the primary mirror and the others might be dust perhaps
GazOC
The dark dots will be near the camera chip say the diagonal (if you are using one) or on the chip itself, def. not the dot on primary. If he Moon is too bright you need to:Turn the contrast and brightness down and find the option to alter the gain and shutter speed (might be under 'advanced options'?) and use a combination of low gain and high shutter speed to darken the image. Also don't use the sharpening slider, you can sharpen the image in software later and untick the auto colour control box.If you could use K3CCD rather than the cameras proprietry software you'd find more people able to help you with settings, it's what most people use. Hope this helps.
Akyra
I changed the res to 640x480 and it was obvious the sharpening need to be turned off completely. The camera is actually pretty Rubbish so I've binned the wretched thing. Thanks for your help anyhow.
