Guy, I've already sharing your thinking should I find it becomes a problem, some 10" gas tubing would be ideal so I'm on the look out .

The turn buckles are a cracking idea Ken and one I'm happy to try.

ok, probably a bit daft but I wonder if wrapping some rope around the four threaded rods (all the way round, not individually) might dampen or lessen the vibration. It probably won't but the fact that it's not rigidly fixed to the rods may help with dampening. If you did it tightly from top to bottom you could also experiment with filling the void with various materials - sand etc...

It might not improve matters much but at least it's quick to try and reversible.

Might be a really daft idea, but, can you get some of the 6" diameter pole, pop it in the middle, and clamp the bolts down so that it's wedged between the plates ? Would that not damp it all nicely ?

I like the diagonal turnbuckles, too. I was just trying to figure out how you would fasten them? But putting diagonal bracing in is one sure way to stop vibration. Look at a radio or TV broadcast tower !

No not really !

used two turn-buckles set diagonally and seems to have done the trick- still deliberating if I now have the height a bit too high

Thanks to all for the suggestions, some might've worked but for my particular local design factors I tried a few different methods.
