@UARS_Reentry @SpaceTrails Saw obvious debris moving very quickly to the North West roughly 15 minutes ago. (From Lethbridge)

@UARS_Reentry 49° 42' 0" N / 112° 50' 0" W. I saw the debris between 11:20- 11:40pm GMT.

Something is very wrong with the GMT time thought.

  • Update #15
    Sat, 24 Sep 2011 08:46:42 AM GMT
    NASA’s decommissioned Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite fell back to Earth between 11:23 p.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 23 and 1:09 a.m. EDT Sept. 24. The Joint Space Operations Center at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California said the satellite penetrated the atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean. The precise re-entry time and location are not yet known with certainty.
  • Would of been great sight to see but at least no one was harmed

There are reports (unconfirmed yet by NASA) that it came down over Okotoks, Canada (which I thnk is not far from Calgary )

So a provisional YES to that !

Nice find MrJ

To save time guys forward to 5.07....toward the bottom of the screen theres a white glow...then maybe an explosion?

Edit: Reading news of this, apparently more parts could land today over America....So not all of it has hit yet?

But that would imply that some bits broke off whilst it was still in orbit above the thicker parts of the atmosphere ??

Dont see how that could have happened unless it had been hit by something previously (not probable without causing a noticable malfunction!) and maybe some small bits were co-orbiting.

Where did you read those reports ?
