I never understand why in such auctions there are eight bids already four days before the end ... what's the point in outbidding each other at such an early stage ?

Maybe because if everybody put in at the very last minute then it would just be a mess and sheer luck who actually won it. Plus sniping is only one tactic - if you bid early and high (higher than others would be willing to) then you'll probably win it since nobody wants to bid on something that's already quite high, and you could end up paying less for it anyway.
