Laser finders / pointers

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used one of the ebay type green lasers for pointing at the stars - are they any good? When ever I try to point at a star with my finger no body else can see the same one (I am 6.5ft) Do they actually look like they are pointing at the right thing?

I recently used a 3" refractor with a red laser finder and it seemed quite a useful bit of kit, what do people think about the merits of laser finders rather than optical ones ?

Brian.

I have a green laser and it's very good for homing in on objects in the sky. It gets me to the approximate position of the object, which I then centre in a low-power eyepiece.

In freezing conditions, my laser's too feeble to do the job, unless it's warmed in some way.
