Earth is orbiting through a swarm of space debris that may be producing an unusual number of nighttime fireballs.

"I thought some wise guy was shining a spotlight at me," says Josh Bowers of New Germany, Pennsylvania. "Then I realized what it was: a fireball in the southern sky. I was doing some backyard astronomy around 9 p.m. on Halloween (Oct. 31, 2005), and this meteor was so bright it made me lose my night vision."

Believe it or not Daz, err...nearly! You can still see them on very 'iffy' nights

Tonight was decidely 'iffy' (thanks again MetOffice, grrrrr! :clouds2: )

Tomorrow may be more hopeful, though so, I'll keep my eyes peeled

I've only ever seen one 'properly', looking up and catching it from start to end. It was like a massive green meteor that exploded! Mad!!

I had a 'corner of the eye' job a few days ago - would be good to see one 'proper'

had one sighting of a meteor from around mars and the seven sisters very bright but not a fireball. that was lastnight 09.11.05 every other night has been cloudy.
