malc-c
I didn't think the EQ6 came in a "non goto" version ??
spaceboy
Do you not just plug in a synscan handset to make the EQ6 a GOTO? I think this is the case with the dobs ?
Whippy
I didn't think the EQ6 came in a "non goto" version ??It does, it's the black model.Do you not just plug in a synscan handset to make the EQ6 a GOTO? I think this is the case with the dobs ? You're thinking of the syntrek version which has the same stepper motors as the synscan but without the synscan handset. This one has the same kind of motors as the EQ3/5 motor kits. It is GOTO upgradeable though.Tony..
spaceboy
That explains the low price then.
malc-c
It does, it's the black model.Tony..I thought that was the HEQ6 ? - but even that is shown with the handset - or should that be the NEQ6
Hypernova
Am I being stupid because I can't see it in the bargain zone? The only EQ6 is a SynScan model for sale at £795, a search doesn't bring up anything either.Must've sold already, not surprising if it was at that price! spaceboy
I don't think you'll have missed out Gaz. If they are similar motors to the EQ3/5 motor kits? they are not all that good. A quick check shows the GT upgrade kits to be £300 so that would make the total £680 and with out having a guide port there would not be the high demand from imagers making the re-sale value low in comparison to HEQ6's. garethmob
ahhhh i see ok:) i was seeing it as a weight upgrade for my 3-2:P lol
spaceboy
If you don't mind having to search the skies and struggling finding the more challenging DSO's then it would probably do just fine. I just think the motors could prove to be the Achilles heal. OK you can upgrade them but HEQ6PRO's come up S/H for around £650 S/H so would it really be worth it ??? Whippy
I thought that was the HEQ6 ? - but even that is shown with the handset - or should that be the NEQ6 AFAIK, there wasn't a HEQ6. Tony..

Cornelius Varley
Pillar Mount Support for HEQ6 20889Clearly states HEQ6 in the subject Looks like a typo error, there is no HEQ6.The sequence is EQ1, EQ2, EQ3-2, EQ5, HEQ5, EQ6, NEQ6Peter
spaceboy
It would appear that you are indeed correct. I have seen some seller advertise a HEQ6 but as you say this must be a typo. ]TELESCOPE SUPPLIERS - SKY-WATCHER TELESCOPE http://www.skywatcher.com/swtinc/product.php?class1=3&class2=304 http://www.opticalvision.co.uk/astronomical_telescopes/sky-watcher_pro-series/goto_mountings

Whippy
The only difference between the syntrek and synscan is the handset.Tony..
garethmob
syntrek has a system similar to the non computerised eq 3-2 / 2 mounts u line it all up press a button and it tracks, u change handset to synscan and it all computerised
spaceboy
Sorry for the confusion Tony I meant between the standard model and syntrek. Thanks Gaz.
Whippy
No worries , the main difference is in the motors. The syntrek/synscan mounts have stepper motors while the black EQ6 has the same type of motors as the EQ5 RA/dual drive upgrade kits. The GOTO upgrade kits for the HEQ5/EQ6 have the stepper motors, synscan handset and the necessary control board.Tony..
spaceboy
I'm going to sound thick now but how is a stepper motor any different ?
malc-c
The number of steps per revolution. The more steps the finer the accuracy
