any one notice white spots on the moon last night?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this is just a reflection phenomenon, but I was looking at the moon last

night and noticed some white spots near, and in, the dark area of the terminator.

I'm sure this is just some prominence catching the light smack on but have any of

you experienced lags seen that before?

BTW i went to x373 with a 90mm (1250 fl) scope last night using a cheap antares 2xbarlow and a meade3000 6.7 mm -cheap gear's fine for moon watching it seems, assuming good seeing.

Yes it's one of my favourite things to observe.

You often see some good ones on the northern part of the terminator

where you get high peaks lit way out into the unlit zone.

This is how the "lunar X" appears, an x shaped range of peaks lit out in the darkness :D

Pretty much anywhere where there is a high peak reaching up into the light from an unlit surface.

Always thought that they looked like little ships at night in a dark sea 8)

Well worth an image or two :D

Thing about the moon is the closer you look the more you see and the more beautiful it becomes.

Yes i'm really glad i got into this astro lark just for the moon alone -

I can't imagine ever becoming jaded by it.

Its sad such a beautiful object goes unnoticed by so many people but then

I don't think they realise what even a small scope can show.

This shows the effect mate..

Here is a lunar mountain range which is not quite fully lit.

The high peak however is fully lit and a fews hours before this

image was taken, that peak would have been a white dot in the darkness :D

If you watch long enough, you can see that white dot grow into a mountain, or the far side of a crater wall.
