another collimation thread

just bought a new scope of a very kind person on here but i dont have a collimator

i was wondering if some one could give me some advice on which to get

its for a 8"

now i do understand there are the really expensive, and the cheap DIY ones, id just like one thats easy to use but not really expensive

The cheapest option is a Kodak 35mm plastic film container. Cut the bottom off the cannister and drill a small 2mm hole in the centre of the grey cap. The container is a good fit in a 1.25" focuser tube.

Hi Garethmob, if you can not get a 35mm camera film canister i used a cover cap from my focuser it actually worked better than a baader laser collimator. hope this helps.

One of these for the primary First Light Optics - Cheshire Collimating Eyepiece and an empty film canister or similar for aligning the secondary is all you will ever need.
