Observable Comets

After finding R/A and Dec data for a particular date, I use Stellarium to find the patch of the sky where the object is. When you point your scope to the right place, a bright blob is hard to miss then.

Thanks. I got it before, but lost track of it durign a longer spell of bad weather. It also moved of the little map I printed earlier.

I've gone a step further and added the Comet as an object to Stellarium itself. I can then get the RA/DE data directly from Stellarium; everytime I've used it it's been spot on :p

There's a tutorial in the tutorial/primers section for adding objects to Stellarium here: http://stargazerslounge.com/primers-tutorials/153213-adding-comets-asteroids-small-bodies-stellarium.html

Matsey ;)

Well thank you very much for that mate, I have tried adding Garradd following some other instructions from the internet but it was way more complicated and in the end, it, presumably, didnt work. So thank you a lot!

Just added it.

As a linux user, edit .stellarium/data/ssystem.ini from your home directory. Updating the global /usr/share/stellarium/data/ssystem.ini does not work. For those in the Church of Emacs, just type

emacs ~/.stellarium/data/ssystem.ini &

from the prompt, and away you go.
