Piers, again.

Hi All,

I'm thinking of building a pier for imaging use but not an obsy, well not for now.

Pier would be outdoors with mount on top and using a waterproof cover for protection.

Now, has anyone tried sinking a concrete fence post into the ground as a pier. I have a few 5x5 inch and 8 foot long posts left over from fencing. Easy to dig a four foot hole, drop it in and backfill with concrete. Top of post could be drilled and expander bolts used to attach pier adaptor.

Or. Get a steel bolt down pier. Also use five paving slabs drilled to feed threaded rod through, bolt whole lot together and drop into a hole. I have some 60cm x 60cm slabs that weigh 7 stone each.

Just some ideas I'm playing with but would value input from anyone who has tried either of these two methods.

Cheers

Ian
