Antares region nebulosity.

This is a tree skimmer for us, only just rising out of the densest part of the atmosphere on the short summer nights. Acquisition and processing are a joint effort with our guest Paul Kummer who also provided all the determination to carry on regardless. We went from five min subs to ten and then fifteen. Fifteen is best.

We got about 7 hours over 4 nights using Atik 4000 OSC and Canon EF200L lens at F3.5 on the EM200 mount.

Processing in Astro Art, Pixinsight, Registar and Ps. The little globs were layered in from an image Paul and I did this time last year in the Tak FSQ. It is murder to process because of the atmospherically induced gradients at its low elevation. We would love to get more (noise is a problem on this one) but the moon is back. So the story so far...

Spectacular Olly! There is a real chocolatey richness in there all mixed in with emission and reflection. A lovely texture. But 15 mins at f3.5! That's going deep. I guess the EM200 is now working the way you wanted.

Thanks. It has been doing fine, giving me reliable 20 minute subs at a metre with the TEC, but on this gig it was being a nightmare again!! OK, at 200mm guided by 400 it gave round stars but something is amiss in the response to guide commands. It may not be the mount's fault though. Still, we will sort it.

Lovely Olly. Colors are great. This region of the sky is fantastic but only with a lens like that or....making a mosaic.

Regards,

paulo

Cheers Paolo. We'd love to mosaic it but with so little time available because of the elevation and the short nights Paul went for the lens.

Good choice in view of the weather!

If you are like me you can resisit anything except temptation...

Trouble is.. it would wipe out the savings for the DSLR budget... which still have a fair way to go this time ...

I Really need to explore the 70-200 f4L, the 24-105 f4L and Tamron 10-24 DiII for astro first though before writing them off ...

But the 200mm f2.8L is a real performer... :)
