M51 and SN2011dh

Hello,

Here is my first image on M51 :) Decided that a supernova in it is a good reason finally to spend some time on this target.

The location is 1730m above the sea level on the territory of the Bulgarian national observatory. We had an astro party there this weekend. The weather was little bit above the average according to the astronomers there, but for us it was just great :(

The image parameters are 1h 50min - 11x10min at ISO800, 4 darks, 20 bias-es, modified and cooled 1000D, sensor temperature -0.5C, ambient ~9C, WO 110ZS, APT 1.53, DSS, PS

Very nice, the colours are looking much better. I notice you say you only used 4 darks, have you tried stacking without them (they will add lot of noise) not that I think you need to - great image!

Thanks Lewis!

I didn't try to stack without darks, but sounds like interesting idea. Darks are killing me at these exposure times - 10min per frame is a lot when you have to pack and drive :) Have to try if will be able to get in home close temperature with the cooling...

I would like someone else to try with 80mm bins tonight to see if I really could see it. I logged stars down to mag 11.2 but the sn is around 12.1 so perhaps I was kidding myself..so go on give it a go!
