serial to USB adapter

Just a point on these USB/Serial drivers, I use two mounts at times so have two serial adapters, both work but need different drivers, done my head in for an hour trying to figure out what the problem was. I can use both in Stellarium at the same time and with ASCOM with no problems.

I have one of these pl2303 prolific adapters, but couldnt get it to work.

I will try the v110 drivers - which are version 14.0,the drivers i have on my disk (that dont work) are version 10.5

Thanks for the heads up

I think these are the same as the ones I purchased from another source which use the PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v130 and the driver works reliably on Win 7 64bit.

If you can't find the driver drop me a pm and I'll post them somewhere for people to try.

From the release notes on my driver set

System Requirement:

. Supports the following Windows OSes:

- Windows 98SE

- Windows ME

- Windows 2000 SP4

- Windows XP SP2 and above (32 & 64 bit)

- Windows Server 2003 (32 & 64 bit)

- Windows Server 2008 / 2008 R2 (32 & 64 bit)

- Windows Vista (32 & 64 bit)

- Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit)

NOTE: For Windows 7, please use RC build 7100 or above build version.

. USB host controller

. Device using PL-2303H/HX/X version chip

Supported device ID and product strings:

. VID_067B&PID_2303 for "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port"

Hi

I had USB woes after buying a cheapo adaptor off ebay.

So I bit the bullet and went to astronomiser.co.uk and paid £14 for my adaptor.

To be fair it worked stright out of the packet on my Win 7 laptop.

I must have more money than sense :)

(hang on...that should be more sense than money !)

The ebay listing does not mention what chip is used. So I'm not sure that it really is a Prolific chip. I was just pointing to the drivers that work with my Prolific-based adapter.

I've bought a number of cheapo's from ebay and never got them to work. The one from Astronomiser worked first time and has never let me down once.......touching every piece of wood that I can find!:icon_eek:

Ordered usb-serial from Universal-gadgets (as in OP) 09/06, arrived this morning, works on Windows-7. :)

Slightly different from the ones I have that only work on XP, the new working cable has '340' printed on the serial plug, the other has 2303 on it.
