night vision
Hi, welcome to the lounge.A 3X barlow can give you a lot of magnification, depending on the eye piece you are using, and you may end up with a rather fuzzy view. It may be better to try a 2X first. A smaller, sharper view is better than an overblown dim one.Liz

Demonperformer
Hi, Matt, and welcome to the forum. As stated, don't fall into the 'magnification at all costs' trap. Small and bright will reveal more detail than big and dim. Can't help with Nuneaton shops, I'm afraid.
KEJ
Matt HiSomething I recently came across although using my SCT scope, plus also being new to all of this was by placing my barlow after the diagonal then X2 (scope, diagonal, barlow, eyepiece). However, if I place the barlow before the diagonal then X3(scope, barlow, diagonal, eyepiece) or in my case webcam. smudgeball
HiWelcome to SGL.Go for a 2x, to quote DP "small and bright"Rather than Big and Dim ( I hope he was still talking about Barlows )Neil
david o
Hi there Matt, welcome to SGL I'd be tempted not to buy anything for now and just use what came with the 'scope. With eyepiece time under your belt you'll have a better idea of what needs adding to your kit.HTH
brantuk
Hi Matt and welcome to SGL The nearst astro shop to Nuneaton will be Sherwoods in Warwickshire. They have a website too with contact details:Sherwoods 'About Us'
stolenfeather
We all want to see more but magnification comes with a price,... less light! I therefore concur with everything said above. Stick with a X2 Barlow. Isabelle
