light pollution filters ?

Recommended Posts

what is the best filter to cut out light pollution and increase contrast on deep sky and the planets ?

im using a baader neodymium lp filter at the moment and its good better than the skywatcher filter i had before

but i do think it depends on the type of lp you have in your area as other people dont seem to notice much difference

I used the same Baader Neodymium filter at SGL6. It really cut the Hereford glow and although it felt like it slightly dimmed the objects, the contrast and the number of objects that appear after being hidden before make it well worth it.

It really does depend on the source of the pollution. If you have a nearby "orange sodium" streetlight then a Skywatcher LP filter will do the job - but may not be so good if other types of light are the problem.
