forestplay Posted May 22, 2011 Share Posted May 22, 2011 Hello from sunny California USA.I'm a relatively new astronomer, having started with this hobby about 3 years ago. First with binoculars, then purchasing a 8 inch (203mm) Newtonian scope on a Dobson mount. I've actually met John Dobson since he lives in nearby San Francisco.My scope has a computer that can be used to find objects, but I find the search by star hopping much more interesting. I find globular clusters, galaxies and planetary nebula the greatest interest, open cluster less so.When I get an opportunity to observe from a very dark location, the dark nebula of the Milky Way in binoculars are mesmerizing.
