Couple of Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I’m on a limited budget, Had been promised a ROR observatory for Christmas but this has now been downgraded to a Pier in a box set up!

My question is, my current telescope is a manual Celestron 8” Advanced Newtonian What pier would you recommend for it (Know its probbably cheaper to get one made) and also what is the best way to upgrade it to a computerized goto model

And any suggestions on the Pier in a box solution

Thanks

Hi Ian, one question : are you wanting to do astro-photography ?

Because, even if you put it on a pier I'm not sure that the CG-5 mount would be up to any imaging work, even after adding the tracking drives. HEQ5 as a minimum, better still EQ6, if you'll want to use the 8N for AP.

FLO do a mobile Skywatcher pier that'll take HEQ5 and EQ6 mounts.

There's also lots of stuff on piers in the SGL DIY section if you want something permanent.
