telrad riser plates?

Recommended Posts

The riser plates lift the Telrad higher off the surface than the standard base. I had to use on a previous truss dob, where the secondary cage upper and lower circles would not let the Telrad settle down onto the base; it needed the riser to get the three adjustment knobs accessible.

They're for comfort. They just clip into the base that comes with the Telrad, so if you're not comfortable, you can add the riser later.

I have the 4" one on my 12" dob and it's great.

I don't use a Telrad riser on my refractors as the scope's tube is long enough to fully secure the long base. Also by not using them, I don't have the problem of the riser catching on anything when I pack the kit away (I don't like the idea of drilling any tube and use double sided carpet tape to attach the base which is plenty).
