See Post #8 above.......

Thanks Merlin, I missed your comment. My understanding was that part of the problem with our NEQ6s was the product variation amongst them, some being considerably better than others.

You guys are confusing me!  Maybe I am a little slow, but that is neither here nor there. :o)  What is the payload?  One person says 40lbs.  Another seems to agree and says 25 kg, but 25kg = 55 lbs!  Which is it?  I own an NEQ6 and mount the 57lb 12" Sky-watcher Newtonian not including the camera, auto-guider, guide scope, etc...  It must come to 65lbs.  I admit it does struggle and remains stable on only the calmest of days.  I would say its at it's limit, but it must be more than 40lbs.  I guess I've never seen an accurate payload limit listed either.  I just went for the gusto!  Any new insights, gentlemen?

Welcome to SGL, spudweb, and greetings to you.

This is from the FLO website -

For your NEQ6 - NOT for the EQ6:

Mount Specifications

  •
  • Mount Type: German Equatorial
  • Payload capacity: 18kg for imaging, 25kg for visual
  • Telescope Mounting: Tube Rings
  • Slow-motion Control: R.A. & Dec (motor controlled)
  • Tripod: 2" Diameter Stainless Steel Pipe
  • Tripod Height: 85-147cm
  • Tripod Weight: 7.5Kgs
  • Counterweight Shaft Diameter: 1.8cm
  • Counterweight Shaft Material: Stainless Steel
  • Mount Weight: 16Kgs
  • Mount Height: 41cm
  • Counterweight: Two, 5.1Kgs each
  • Total Weight: 23.5Kgs (counterweight not included)

So this translates to 39.6 lbs.. for imaging purposes, and 55 lbs. for visual.

So it not capable of handling 65 lbs. That it is tells me you're on your way to burning out the gears and motors.

Take care,

Dave
