Connecting my DSLR to a SkyWatcher EQ3 PRO SynScan GOTO Equatorial Mount

Recommended Posts

Dan and Steph, the easiest option would be to get a medium length dovetail bar Dovetail bars - Skywatcher Dovetail Mounting Plates and either something like the Manfrotto 323 QR adapter Manfrotto 323 Rectangular Quick Release Plate (MN323) - Warehouse Express or a ballhead, and mount it directly to the dovetail bar. Then you put the dovetail on the mount with the camera attached. Your tube rings will almost certainly have a piggy back bolt fitted to one of them, if you remove that, you can use that through one of the middle holes (drilled for photography equipment) on the dovetail bar to attach the ballhead/qr adapter. The length of the bar should also give you some leeway to balance too.

A nice solution I picked some clones up on ebay from a camera shop in Norwich for around half that price... Price has gone up but hasn't everything :)

...if you want a bit more flexibility you can use a Ball and Socket head.. once the mount is Pa'd and tracking at the sidereal rate the camera cam be pointed at any part of the sky...
