  1. I finally took the plunge and ordered myself a Really Useful Box 84ltr, it fits the 8SE including the original packaging, with a little room to spare. I quibbled over the price, RRP is £35, but I managed to get one from Amazon Warehouse deals for £16 (currently they are £18.50 new on Amazon). I had to remove my 9x50 finder scope in order to fit the top half of the packing, but that's OK as it's on a quick-release shoe; the red dot finder prevents the top half of the packing from going fully down, I may make a cut-out to allow this to fit snugly. I had to do a small amount of cutting of the packing to allow for my Baader Steeltrack focuser, which is considerably larger than the original back but still fits inside the Really Useful Box with at least an inch to spare. I will need to pack the side gaps (less than two inches with the packing) but otherwise it should be a nice snug and safe transport box. At last, I feel confident enough to take my precious 8SE out in the car with me! This might also accommodate a 9.25 SCT.
  2. Hi My recently acquired CCD imaging kit is all very lovely, except, I don't want to keep dismantling it in order for the scope to fit back in it's case and stored indoors between sessions. i thought I'd come up with the perfect solution, but *apparently* leaving it on the dining table isn't a viable option . So what do you guys do? Put up with disassembly, make/buy a bigger box, or something way more clever that I haven't yet considered? Justin
  3. Hi, I’ve been looking at getting a Mak 127 or an 8” Dobsonian and I was think of leaving the scope in the conservatory. The conservatory is south facing and gets quite hot in the summer months. What is the maximum temperature scopes can be stored at without causing damage? Thanks for any advice.
  4. I have just bought (I bought it in January and the 'scope just arrived today) a Skywatcher Startravel 120mm Refractor together with an AZ5 Mount & Portable Tripod as a Grab & Go Telescope. The problem is that I am really struggling to find a decent quality storage/transport bag or hard case that will fit it. Not to mention the AZ5 and the tripod! I mistakenly bought one of the Geoptik bags for what turned out to be the wrong mount but I'm making it work by putting the mount in its cardboard box together with the extension and the flexible slow mo controls in their boxes to fill out the case and that'll do for now. The telescope however is a chunky beast (to which I added a Finder scope, not fond of red dot sight) and I am desperate for bag or case that will fit it. I cannot leave the telescope set up so it has to be put away each time and good cases/storage bags will make the world of difference to taking the telescope to darker skies and keeping it safe at home. Do any of you own this telescope (and mount)? Have you found a good case that you can recommend? Please let me know!
