Hi All, I am currently researching which setup to purchase as my first proper scope (once they are back in stock). I thought I had settled on the Skywatcher Explorer 130ps AZ GTi but then I saw the Skywatcher Star Discovery 150i for just a little more money. Could anyone please tell me the difference between the 2 OTA's (other than the different aperture size), and also the difference between the 2 mounts? I realise that the AZ GTi can be modified to run in EQ mode whereas the Star Discovery can't. Can the Star Discovery view all the way to the zenith or does the OTA c

Hi guys, having fallen in love with my 130pds, and seeing that I'm not the only one recently, I was thinking it would be nice if we posted our images made with a 130pds here. It gives a nice reference point as well, as to what could be achievable (with better guiding, better camera, better weather...). Well, here goes:

Hey all, I'm considering the 250PDS. The main use is visual, and the second is EAA (I currently use a zwo183mm). What I'm hesitant about is the primary focus. since It's mostly for visual, I'm wondering on how much back focus it has compared to the standard Skywatcher 10" dobsonians? with the standard dobsonias with the same optics and focuser you already need an extension tube for most eyepieces... Also, there's probably a "bigger" obstruction (bigger shadow on primary)?

I have a SkyWatcher AZ-EQ5 mount. It’s all working fine, except I have an issue with alignment. This applies whether I’m in EQ or Alt-Az mode. I set it up using one or two star align without problems. However if I use the handset to GoTo another object, I usually need to do fine tuning adjustments to centre on the new object. But the mount disregards these adjustments, so if I use the GoTo system to centre on a nearby object, or revisit the original object a second time, it’s still off by the same amount. How do I tell the mount that I have centred on the new object and that it shoul

Hi all - looking for some advice on eyepieces. I have seen beautiful views of Jupiter with its moons and Saturn and of course the moon. I have two extra 32mm and 10mm plossls but am looking for better lenses for planets which will show more detail? Which ones would you suggest? Many thanks in advance!

Hi all, Thought I'd share the clip I designed to fit a Right Angle Finder to the polar scope on my Star Adventurer mount. I designed it to work on my Neewer RA Finder but it could possibly work with similar ones (that have the removable adaptor plates for various camera types). My finder came with a few different adaptor plates and I chose the metal screw-together type which was labeled for use with the older Nikon F series cameras. As you can see from the photos, this just screws into the printed clip allowing you to leave it in place on the Polar Scope but remove the RA Finder

Hi everyone. I have recently purchased Skywatcher Esprit ED100 and the first time when I used the telescope I found that the scope tends to slide. I tried to fix this issue by tightening the screws. I couldnt find any luck so far. the scope keeps on sliding. Can any one help me with this issue. Did anyone encounter the same issue?

Hi, I've got a Skywatcher Heritage 130p reflector, and if i insert anything less than 10mm eyepiece, the image won't get crisp. I guess it's normal, but as I'm very new to astronomy, I'd like to know what the sharpness depends on exactly. Is that the focal length (how fast the telescope is? ) or the size of the mirror and how much light it gathers? Or both affect it the same way? Are things the same with refractors in this regard? Thanks.

Hi, So just today i got my new EQ3 mount and tripod delivered. Brought it out, balanced it leveled it etc etc. So i polar aligned it, and selected 2 Star Alignment. 1st star to align to: Betelgeuse. As soon as i hit confirm align the motors kick in but as soon as the mount starts to rotate the motors stop and the hand controller resets itself immediatly and starts initializing all over again. I discovered that moving Ra on its own works just fine as does moving Dec on its own but whenever i press for example the left and Up arrows at the same time the moun

Hi everyone I am new here, I live in Perth Western Australia (bottle class 5) and have just brought my new set up. There hasn’t been anyone in the area I can talk to about astrophotography so tried to do it all myself online and I fear I may have incorrectly purchased some things. (I tried to get things one at a time for budget purposes) I have this set up heq5, evostar ed80, .85reducer & corrector, evoguide 50ed, zwo 120mm mini for guiding and just my canon 200d mkii for the imaging. The telescope, I think I may have brought something that’s not great for imaging and that’

Hello guys I am an absolute amateur buying his first telescope... and I am desperate, please help. My budget is around 1300 euro (1600$). I am interested mostly in DSO... astrophotography, but observing as well. So refractors are better for astrophotography, crisp clear views, plus they are low maintenance... but refractors with big aperture are too expensive, apo refractors even more... and I think that I want big aperture, because I am interested in observing as well, not only astrophotography. Sooo more light, more details, more magnification. Please correct me, if I am mistaken. A

Finally got to image Mars this year after some appauling weather in the UK. This was my first time out using the ZWO ASI 224MC on a very cold eve. I think i've probably the maxed out my equipment (Skywatcher 200p) and the location (back garden in the middle of an estate) for this image, so pretty pleased with the results. Its 15% of 11000 frames stacked using Autostakkert, and Registax used to bring out some detail. Equipment used: Skywatcher 200p with dual speed focuser, EQ5 mount with dual axis motors Tal x3 Barlow ZWO ASI224mc with IR Filter Lenovo x270

Hello, I know you've seen these questions a lot (unless your new) but I'm struggling a lot on if I should buy a Skywatcher 250px (10") or 200px (8") (dobsonians). I have a 5 inch and i'm looking for a big step up for noticeable changes. Thank you

Hi everyone, I'm completely new to telescopes and know nothing but I want to learn and I need some advice! I have a budget of £200 which I can't stretch. I really like both the Skywatcher Heritage 150p and SW Skyliner 150p which I believe has been along longer than the Heritage. I would like to take the scope out occasionally to dark skies (so the heritage would be easier to transport) but with 2 very young children at home the reality is that I will mostly be using the scope in the back garden. Obviously both scopes are 150p but come with different accessory spec (specs be

For sale is my beloved but now superfluous to requirements HEQ5 Pro for £650 It's in a used condition as you would imagine. I've had it for about 4 years and found great success with this mount. Ideal for those beginning astrophotography and also good for visual users. I'm calling it "deluxe" due to the upgrades I've had done. - It's belt modified - It's had brand new bearings and grease - The backlash has been expertly setup - It has the latest polar scope - The power port has been replaced with an aviation style port which is a lot more secure It'll come with the

Hi all I first came on here when I bought my first telescope, a Meade LT6 ACF in 2014. Everything was great and then we moved and despite taking care with my precious LT6, I could not align the scope and it was left to one side. I have since sold it and sort of regretting it as I sold it for much, much less than I bought it for. Ah well, can’t do anything about it now. so getting to the point, I’m on the lookout for another telescope and one that won’t get left in the corner. It would need to be easy to move about and set up. I took some great photos of the moon with my LT6 and

Hi All, im totally new to this and have been getting setup over the past 3 months. I’ve purchased a Skywatcher 150P on a EQ3 Pro mount. I have a 2x and 3x Barlow with 10x and 20x eyepieces. I’m trying to view and photograph Mars as it’s so bright at present and easy to see however I’m really struggling to see anything more than a bright ball when viewing and when photographing it’s just a blurry ball. I have a canon 700d DSLR with t ring and adaptors can folk suggest what combination of Barlow / eyepiece would be required to view Mars in all its glory and possib

My 200P just arrived and oh my God... I have been trying to wrap my head around the mount for 4 hours. The manual didn't really help so I decided to go on youtube, but again, I didn't find any good and detailed videos so I decided to ask here if there is any video or perhaps blog post that might help me set up the mount. Thank you very much! *by the way, is the EQ5 supposed to have slow motion cables? I only got 2 knobs (not cables) and I'm not sure if there is something missing or not... sorry, this is the first time I've used a serious equatorial mount or telescope. T
