  1. I've been processing this image for quite a long now. I started acquiring data the last season when I only managed to shoot 3 panels with the Canon 6D through the Esprit 80 for a total of ~7h. This season I restarted and I added more data and covered a wider area. So a mix of portrait and landscape panels were planned and shot with the same scope and camera. Now every pixel represents at least 3-4h of integration, some have more. All the above were shot from Bortle 2-3 sites where I traveled sometimes even for an hour of exposure. To the RGB data I added 17.5h of Ha, same story with the panels. Some were oriented N-S, others E-W. These were shot with the SW 72ED and the ASI1600 from home and Bortle ~7. Then I figured out I still had time and I planned and shot 9 more panels of luminance with the 72ED and ASI1600, each consisting of 1h of exposure. I combined all of these into an image, processed it and for the Orion nebula and Running Man nebula I also blended some data I shot last season with the 130PDS and ASI1600 from home. Below it's my first final version of all data combined. You can watch it in full resolution on astrobin: https://www.astrobin.com/full/jni0w8/ or Flickr: https://flic.kr/p/2iBGUXq

  3. From the album: Deep Sky Imaging

Image of the “Running Man” Nebula near Orion Nebula, taken in natural color through my 8" SCT at a focal length of 2032mm using an astro modded and cooled Canon 40D DSLR. Object ID: Sh2-279 - NGC1973, NGC1975, NGC1977, NGC1981 I captured around 90 minutes of sub data on 2nd March but a lot of the data from that night, about 60%, was poor with drift and star bounce due to over compensation with DEC corrections/DEC Backlash setting being too aggressive, and rejected as a result. During the next night the subs are coming out nice and stable. The above image consists of the best 12x30s, 12x60s, 24x120s, 20x180s & 12x240s ISO1600 subs, total time of 2 hours and 54 minutes.

  6. From the album: Stevebb.com

M42 Orion and NGC1977 Running man nebulas taken using a Skywatcher Equinox ED120 on an NEQ6 Pro mount and imaged using Backyard EOS and a modified Canon 450D DSLR. Thanks to Chris E and Warren N in Lincoln for inviting me down for the weekend (clear skies). This is a picture I have always wanted to capture since I was a kid.

  7. Afternoon All, After what seems like too long I have finally managed to do a bit more serious Astro imaging and revisit the forum (been over 2 years IIRC), as it turns out having two children under 5 and UK skies is not a good mix for a hobby in astronomy, especially if you value sleep. Anyhow in those 2 years of downtime have taken the time to tear down the EQ6, overhaul the bearings, take out some backlash, re-grease with lithium grease, flush out the cobwebs from the roll off shed, clean out the MN190 (also infested with spiders worryingly), retake darks and bias files and overhaul the usb/power cables to the scope. Finally after all this and some minor teething issues I got a few clear nights between Nov 2017 and Jan 2018, so I decided to have a go at NGC1977 - The Running Man Nebula in Orion . 4 Hours of Luminance at with 300s subs 1 Hour each of R,G,B in 300s subs Atik383L+ mono (at -20) and MN190 Stacked in DSS and Post-Proc in PS Image reduced by 50% to fit to screen better Really happy being able to get back into this again Keith
