  1. Most of the astrophotography I have been doing to date has been in my back garden which conveniently faces north and I can attache my DSLR to my laptop via a 5m usb cable - which means my laptop is nice and safe in the warm/dry kitchen. As the targets I am interested are moving and seem better accessible from the fron of the house, I need to change things around a bit. Because the house is in the way I need to be a fair distance from it to see Polaris to align it all and won't be able to run a cable into the house - so I need something a bit more portable to control the camera as I take my subs. (There is a small field in front of the house by the way, I'm not standing in the road). I have seen some apps for controlling DSLRs via a mobile, but I believe that these are only suitable for better cameras that have a wi-fi function. I am not going to be able to use them with my Canon 1100d? Am I right in this thinking or does anyone use a mobile app to control their 1100d? Failing that, then I presume the best option is to set it all up out the front of the house and use an Intervalometer to control the imagin run? And then sit in the car to keep warm and watch for "dodgy" characters interfering with my equipment! Not that I have had any clear skies for about 15 years....... Cheers Mark
  2. When set up at home, I use BackyardEOS on a PC to run the Canon DSLR camera and take series of snaps at a set time length. However, if I take the telescope to a dark field somewhere, I was wondering how I could get the camera to take a series of snaps without access to the computer? I'm sure I read somewhere that to stack images successfully, they all need to be the exactly the same exposure length etc? Appreciate any pointers - Thanks
  3. Hi, Only got my first scope two days ago and been waiting for a clear night since. Tonight was just overwhelming. I am so new to this no idea what I was looking at and thats where I need to slow down and approach this more methodically. However had a great first night in my back garden with my Dob. Got a little difficult to see much when moon came up high but I had already had a good couple of hours being absolutely amazed. I think I am hooked. I do not have any imaging equipment yet as I just wanted to get a 2nd hand scope and get to grips with whats out there first. However, whilst looking at the moon at the end of the session with a lowish power lens just couldn't resist trying to take a shot with my mobile through the EP (see I don't even have a camera) just holding by hand. Thought it just wouldn't work but quite surprised how it came out. Please don't all shout at once, I know compared to the photos I have seen on this website this is not what you would call quality but for my first night stargazing I was pleased with it. All being well I can only get better.

Day 1 12/10/2015 Well Ive decided to build a mobile Observatory to allow easy movement and hopefully set up on sites quicker.This Blog will record the process in the various stages of the build conversion project. Donor vehicle is A 2004 Mercedes Benz frontline Ambulance with 200k on the clock. The engine is misfiring and preliminary checks would indicate piston trouble, as the engine is misfiring / lumpy and has excess back pressure at the oil filler cap. First job is to remove the engine from the vehicle as sump access is not good, I will likely need to drop the sump . Hopefully there will not be any major damage to the engine bores as that will mean a replacement engine. The conversion will take approx 6 stages to completion and a build time due to costs of around 10 months. 1/ Repair Engine unit. 2/ Install additional imobiliser,security lock upgrades and tracker system. 3/ Fit large sliding roof 4/ Fit an elevating Pier 5/ Fit a self leveling system to enable stability on site 6/ Re Enable Power supplies and safety check on electrics
