  1. Hi there, I'm hoping to buy an OIII filter for astro-imaging and i've read a lot of halo related posts and am unsure which to go for. Are the Baader OIII now halo-free? it sounds like OIII are notorious in general for halos and i want to be reasonably sure before i hand any money over. My astronomik ha 1.25" shows bad haloes, but the clip version doesn't although that one is newer. Will the astronomik OIII clip be halo-free? I am unable to reach the budget necessary for Astrodon, so i'm thinking the next best will be either Baader or Astronomik, is this pretty accurate or am i missing a manufacturer? Many thanks for any assistance in advance!

  4. I just saw this halo effect outside my house here in Perth Australia I have seen this before in the Uk but never this large , thought it was worth a post .
  5. I guess the thin cloud has its uses other than ruining my attempts at Jupiter earlier. There's a nice halo visible here right now with Jupiter sat on it at about 2 o'clock position. I originally tried to image it with a 15mm lens, and it barely fit. So I broke out the 8mm fisheye to get this scene of what I call a garden and the wrapped up mount.

  7. Here's a photo I took on 24th of April showing a very strong 22° solar halo. Down to the left and right there is also a trace of the rare 46° halo. On top of the 22° you can also see an upper tangent arc. The image is a mosaic of 6 photos that was shot using a Nikon D800E and a Nikon 14-24/f2,8.
