  1. Hi SGL team, Is anyone in, or near, Edinburgh/Scotland selling an EQ5 mount? Andy
  2. Okay, I'll try to make this as short as possible. Info: I have a EQ5 mount (soon to become motorised and GOTO'd) and, after reading countless astrophotographers praise the QHY PoleMaster, I thought it'd be a good idea to follow in their footsteps and buy myself a PoleMaster. I saw nothing about the PoleMaster supporting the EQ5, so I thought I'd ask whether or not the PoleMaster would make my life easier by supporting the EQ5. Clear skies, Leon.
  3. Hello all! I just picked up a Skywatcher Evostar 80mm Doublett and LX70 (EQ5) mount. This is my first refractor and EQ mount so it took me a while to put it together (if you all notice anything out of place please tell me!). I still enjoy my 8” dob but wanted to learn. This type of scope. It had good reviews for general viewing, but I'm not sure what to expect. The EQ mount took quite some time to figure out and one of my questions is do I operate the scope with the counterweight horizontal to the ground? I noticed that in that position I can use the control cables to move up and down and left and right. Any advice is appreciated!
  4. Hi All Has anybody else had this problem? I use a single, ageing laptop (HP620 8Gb RAM) running Windows 7 Pro 64bit to control my imaging setup using the following software; Cartes du Ciel and EQMOD to control EQ5 Pro mount via EQDIRECT cable connected via powered USB Hub BackyardEOS to capture images from Canon 450D via same USB powered hub PHD2 for guiding using GP-CAM 130C and EQMOD pulse guiding What confuses me is that some evenings everything works absolutely fine. Another evening, using exactly the same hardware, software and even connections (ie I always plug the leads into the same ports) the system will be working fine but then suddenly fail. The failure affects EQMOD indicating a timeout or port not available issue and the Canon 450D also 'locks' requiring a restart of the camera and BackyardEOS. I have run USBTree during such a failure and it is showing that the EQDIRECT cable (ie serial converter) is still connected to COM4 (which is correct) and the Canon 450D is also still connected. I basically have to ensure that all the software is closed and any associated services also stopped. Of course, the scope is now pointing away from its home position so I have to move it manually back to 'home' before starting again. My thoughts are that there could be a number of issues; 1. Use of a USB hub 2. A dodgy EQDIRECT cable 3. USB cables too long (ie about 5m) 4. Windows is turning off a connection (I have set the power management for each USB port to 'off') 5. Canon 450D somehow 'freezing' When using this laptop, I turn off the Wifi and Anti Virus and Automatic Updates are also off. It just baffles me that sometimes this system works flawlessly for hours and yet other nights it keeps failing. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks for looking.
  5. Many of you know I had trouble with my mount anyway found that the Dec and altitude bolt had worn the hole and left a hell of a mess. Well a fellow SGL`er Peter Drew has fixed it and it is as smooth as silk cannot wait get it out and try it. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Peter for his time and encourage people to go to the Astronomy Centre I think it is at Todmorden, where Peter has some fantastic Scopes and binoculars made out of refractors and reflectors. He has done all the work himself, really lovely bloke I cannot thank him enough. Paul
  6. As ive never used a goto mount before i would like to ask when i take my mount out and if i put it in same place every time will i still have to polar align. Secondly if i put the mount in park at end of the session can i just do a two star alignment at the beginning of a new session. Thirdly can you point me to an easy to follow polar alignment tutorial for an EQ5 mount and syscan set up with two star alignment pleased thank you in advance.
  7. Looking for a EQ5 Pro with tracking etc. Willing to travel a reasonable distance. I am about 20 minutes from Chester. Extending my request for a HEQ5. This would be my first choice and then the EQ5 as a second choice. Thanks for reading.
