  1. I am looking at various refractor telescopes (I already have a great Dobsonian!) and was wondering which mount would be best to start with. I'm not interested in computer control but not sure which type mount would be best to consider.
  2. Hi all, So, i've just begun my journey into Astronomy and subsequently have fallen into the rabbit hole of Astrophotography, as stated in the title i currently own a SkyWatcher Skyliner 200P FlexTube SynScan Dobsonian Telescope however as you may all know the dobsonian mount isn't really feasible for long exposure photographs and have started researching EQ Mounts and will most likely go with the Skywatcher HEQ5 Pro GOTO Mount & Tripod however i have seen comments about not being able to convert the FlexTube models of telescopes and was wondering if anyone here has had any success converting a SW flextube telescope to work on a EQ mount using tube rings? Thanks!
  3. LOOKING FOR INFO ON BUILDING EITHER A BRAKE ROTOR, OR STEAL PLATE MOUNT FOR MY SUPER POLARIS EQ . PLANNING ON MOUNTING THIS TO A POST, PLEASE HELP WITH DESIGN/SUGGESTIONS. SIMILAR TO PICTURE ANDY
  4. So i have had my fair share of visual astronomy with my 10 inch dob, But i am no looking forward into the realm of astrophotography. And i don't want to have into the jump into the deep end and by a $1,500 eq mount(yet) i was planning on getting a ed80 refactor and the camera i can get figured out. Is there any (good) budget mounts for dso? I was hoping to find a good mount for around $900. Even though i want Budget mount(or a budget mount compared to a $1500 mount) i do not want to get rid of feature that would keep me from pulling my hair out. Would it even be worth it? Thanks in advanced! I was referring to the http://www.telescope.com/Mounts-Tripods/Equatorial-Mounts-Tripods/Orion-Atlas-EQ-G-Computerized-GoTo-Telescope-Mount/pc/-1/c/2/sc/34/p/116277.uts Looking forward to be able to see nebulae in color(of course after i process it and such)
  5. Hie folks, Wanted a mount for astrophotographt, but buying one for my 8" dob is really expensive. Nearly 3000$. I recently came across a dob dual axis eq platform. What would be your suggestions on this. ???It is a motorised dual axis dob platform with hand controls and costs about 550$. Yes il b using an autoguider to keep the object i want centered. Any suggestions...?? Please feel free to share youe thoughts.
  6. The last time I had an EQ mount was many years ago in my plooky youth and I lived in Norfolk so I could always use the Pole Star for a good set up. Sadly the Southern Hemisphere lacks such a bright star and we have to rely on sigma octans, which can be hard to pick out and of course if not on the actual SCP. My question is if I can set the latitude correctly and get a corrected compass bearing, would that be enough to get a good set up? What do you good folks do?
  7. Hi ! I'm calling out to EQ6 owners who have modded into into a belt driven system either using the Rowan kit or alike. What is the backslash in pixels reported by PHD ?
  8. My interest is in astrophotography and I am narrowing down my search of a mount between Celestron CGX-EQ (EQ only, 55 lb payload) and the Celestron CGEM II (AZ/EQ, 40 lb payload). Is there an advantage to having the AZ/EQ if my primary use is astrophotography? The CGEM II is only rated for 40 lbs and I thought the recommendation is to only go half that (20 lbs) for astrophotography. It would be pretty easy to exceed 20 lbs at some point in the future as my telescope collection grows. Any thoughts on the tradeoffs between these two fine mounts? Lloyd Linnell
  9. Hi guys, I have a chance to buy Lidl style Bresser refractor on this particular EQ mount. Does anybody here know exactly what mount it is? Do any of you any experience attaching a simple EQ2 motor drive to it? See below. It seems very sturdy compared to EQ2 so I'm tempted. I know there are probably not the same mounting holes on the Bresser EQ as there are on EQ2, but my hope is that the R/A gear and worm might be of similar size (and ratio) to EQ2, so that the speed of EQ2 motor drive rotation could accomodate it. If so, a little bit of DIYing might be enough. Any thoughts? Thank you very much.
  10. Now when I have started to use my observatory I face a new problem, meridian flip. Earlier at my balcony I didn't have any problem because I only had a free view to East. Can that problem be solved and still have a German equtorial mount? After have googled on it I found some people who have solved it, not exactly how I want it but close. I have collected my information on my homepage and a first simple drawing how I think will be a good solution for me who live at latitude 59 degrees: http://astrofriend.eu/astronomy/projects/project-eq-mount-with-no-meridian-flip/project-eq-mount-with-no-meridian-flip.html I'm a bit angry at myself that I didn't think about this before I built the pier and observatory, it had been much easier if I had been built it alreday from the beginning. Tell me if you have done any attempt to solve this, maybe better ideas then my own. /Lars
  11. hey people, just got my new telescope delivered. its an 8 inch reflector with a weird looking EQ mount. iam having trouble setting up my telescope. also its hard to point at something, along with that, i see the image rotated at 200+ degrees, near to inversion. any help? how do i proceed? PS: any help with the setting circles would also be appreciated
  12. Hi! I have recently been given a mount and need to buy a controller and polar finder for it. However it is pretty old and I can't find any brand or model number on it. Any help identifying it would be appreciated! Thanks!
  13. Hi all, I've made a video on how to setup an equatorial mount. Hope this is useful, tips are welcome! https://youtu.be/clNITffWijg
