  1. Hi everyone, the black and white image is an image that I stacked in dss and the other image is a single shot of what I stacked! I was wondering if anyone would take a crack at editing the stacked version of the picture for me as I am trying to get my head around editing and am wondering what a picture like this could look like with a bit of tweaking ? Thanks everyone
  2. hi everyone, i have taken my first image of the orion nebula, it's not great but it will do as a first shot. I took the image with a 300mm tamron lens, no tracking. I took lights, darks and bias shots and have stacked them in deep sky stacker. However I am a bit lost after this with regards to getting more out of the image, colour etc. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or anything? Thanks & Happy New Year m42 1.TIF
  3. Hello fellow stargazers, i am trying to get my head around editing and was wondering if anyone would be able to take a quick shot at editing this single shot of the Orion Nebula for me? I am very interested in seeing what kind of detail can be taken from an image like this (I know it's not great but it's all I have at the moment), I had hoped to put up a stacked version of this image but my computer is causing me trouble at the moment! Feel free to crop etc thanks everyone ?
  4. First attempt at Orion Nebula (first attempt at any dso ) also first attempt at editing. Was shot with a 300mm tamron lens, lights, darks and bias. No tracking. ISO 3200 constructive criticism welcome ??
  5. I am interested in improving my image processing techniques, but I do not have clear enough skies or good enough equipment to capture my own images to process. If anyone is interested in sharing their unprocessed images so that I can practise editing them I would be grateful, thanks
  6. Hi everyone. I'm currently running Linux on my laptop and just wanted to know the best stacking software is for an amateur to use. I tried installing registax with wine but it didn't work. I've tried out PIPP and didn't really get on with it. So far the only one I've gotten my head around is Siril by free astro. Would like to know what other software there is that works well on linux that is good for amateurs who have just started playing around with this.
  7. A few weeks ago I took pictures of the Horsehead Nebula using the following setup and settings: Canon 550D (Rebel T2i) Canon 75-300mm f4.0-5.6 at f8.0 50x2min exposures 10 dark frames 20 flat frames Stacked in DSS using median stack This is the .fits file straight out of DSS: It has some pretty bad coma and halos (especially toward the edges) but there is certainly data there. I perform AutoDev on this image to reveal errors and then start the Wipe Module on it. This, however, is where the problem starts. When the Wipe is performed, I get this nasty green glow (and no, it's not a Mask). I cannot seem to get rid of it at all. Some setting can change its size and shape, but it still remains. I can see the nebulosity underneath, but I cannot get to it because the glow. Does anybody have any idea what causes this and how to get rid of it? Thanks for any help you can give, Conor.
