Hi, I bought a Celestron focal reducer / corrector lens part #94175 for my non Edge CPC1100. Celestron say - in bold type no less - that this reducer is not compatible with Edge HD optics. The cost of the dedicated reducer for the Edge optics ( #94242 ) is ~ $200 more than the non Edge version Out of curiousity, and to make sure what Celestron say was correct, I tried the non Edge focal reducer part number #94175 on my 8" Edge telescope - and it works just fine. The field of view is expanded as it should be and the clarity to the edge of the view is as clear as when not using the reducer. IE vignetting is minimal / non existent Has anyone else found this to be true with their Edge and non Edge telescopes? This is significant; the price difference is about $200 between the two reducers and, in my case, the non Edge reducer gives me altitude clearance on the bottom of my Evolution mount whereas using a dedicated Edge reducer ( #94242) would not. So if you're in a similar to me, try the non Edge reducer first before spending an extra $200. Siouxsie

Hi, So I'd like to learn more about Celestron's mirror locks that are installed on their Edge HD models. I have an Evolution 8" Edge that has these lockls. * What do they do? * Why do only the Edge models have themn installed? * When should I have them screwed in? * Should I leave them loose most of the time? Any help you can give me in answering those questions will be much appreciated, thanks, plus anything else you'd like to tell me about these mirror locks, I am here to be enlightened. I did initially have my locks done up which is maybe why I was creaking noises from the focuser area............ I now have them both unscrwed 6 turns. I am just into geneal astronomy, I don't do astrophotography nor use a guider, if that info helps you pitch your answers to me. As always, thank you. Siouxsie

First time out of back garden since damaging shoulder in December ( thankyou @Blazar ) took this at around 01:30 so really 29th not as in title. Seeing was way better than my back garden but still pretty poor due to low altitude. Roughly 4 minute 8000 frames, Pipped to 80 % then Autostakert best 25 %. Fairly aggressive wavelets in Registax. Thanks for looking.

I am selling my Celestron EDGE HD 8 inches, a change of direction has made me realise that I prefer wider field of views than the Celestron currently provides. I purchased this second hand last year and have never looked through it and literally unpacked it to take some pictures today! For sale: Celestron EDGE HD8 (faststar compatible) Double CGE dovetail bars (1 top and bottom) Celestron T adaptor part number 93644 Celestron 9X50 finder part number 51611 Celestron Dovetail for the finder Celestron 0.7 focal reducer specifically for the EDGE HD8 Also comes with Baader 2inch visual back, quick lock - these are fantastic and so easy to use, one of the best upgrades for any scope. I also have the original paperwork, manual and the original packaging. RRP for everything listed is a smidgen under £1500, I'm asking £899! I am willing to haggle but please no silly offers, I would prefer collection or could meet half way depending on location. I don't really want to trust couriers with any optical equipment. Really a great scope, but not using it so please someone buy it and use it for it was designed for! Thanks for reading, and please contact me for any additional information. Neil.

Hi. Just starting to use autofocus with the Celestron motor focus and SGP. Can anyone give me some starting points for step size, backlash etc. I’m getting there but wasting a lot of imaging time just trying to get this to work accurately. I’m currently trying a step size of 75 and a backlash of 50. Any tips most appreciated.

Seeing as close to opposition I felt I needed to make the effort and stay up late ! Managed this last night / this morning while Saturn was popping in and out of view between various obstructions. Quick process of 2 minute AVI captured in Sharpcap, raw8, 3000 frames, pipped to 70%, then Autostakkert best 25 %, RGB align and wavelets in Registax 6, colour and contrast tweak in CS2. Thanks for looking... very tired at desk in office ? C8 Edge / Televue 2 x barlow / ASI 224MC
