Apologies if this has been posted before, but I have just discovered this today. There is now a seemingly simple procedure to add the PPMXL catalogue (about 900m stars to mag 20) to CdC - http://www.ap-i.net/skychart/en/news/ppmxl_catalog. I won't be adding it to my laptop version, but will probably give it a go on my desktop, as a recent test (https://stargazerslounge.com/topic/275697-it-only-took-a-minute/) suggests that UCAC4 is just not going to be good enough any more! Thanks.
I'm thinking of producing a custom horizon for CdC to make it easier to see when an object will be hidden by buildings, trees etc. The CdC help references Stellarium help but the internet link is broken and I don't have it installed and would prefer not to install it just to read some help. Has anyone done this? If so how did you go about doing it? I was going to take a panoramic image with my iPhone as a starting point but I'm not sure if the image projection will be correct or not and if I will need to manipulate the image in anyway as well as change the sky colour. Thanks in advance James
I am at a complete loss to understand why eqmod was not syncing on CdC last night. I have had a look at this video, I had the star centred on the screen [3m33s], I pressed sync on CdC, I got the dialog box [3m39s], I clicked 'yes' and NOTHING happened: the white circle stayed where it was, no sync points were added to EQMOD, zilch! I can get round most problems, but this really one stymies my GOTOs and, therefore, my imaging process. I have been unable to find anything in the EQMOD documentation that deals with such an error and a search on here has turned up no help (but that always depends on the words put into the search!). I checked all the obvious things (location, date/time, etc - but why any of these should stop sync working is beyond me). It's all running on Windoze 10. Any suggestions on why this should have stopped working and (more importantly) how I might get it working? Thanks.
I have CdC set up to show "faint satellites" (Setup > Solar system > 'show faint satellites of the outer planets' [checked]), but this post suggests that, for Jupiter, only the innermost 8 moons (including the Galileans) are on the database. Does anyone know if it is possible to add the orbital elements of the outer moons somewhere, to get them to display as well, and, if so, how to go about it? Thanks.
