Hi everyone! I am looking for a good beginner’s telescope that we could enjoy for years to come. My 10-year old son has wanted a telescope forever and is constantly reading up on the sky in encyclopaedias. For my tight single-mom budget, I have found two options that seem appealing (I am enclined to go with a Dobsonian over a refractor, following comments on better image clarity): 1. Skywatcher 130mm/f650 with EQ mount (2nd hand for CA$125) including 25 wide angle, 10mm and 3.6mm. 2. Celestron PowerSeeker 127 EQ (new for CA$200 including taxes) including 20mm, 4mm and 3x B

Hey guys, the dark nights are soon returning here in Denmark! (The major downside of living at 57 latitude) And I am going to be buy a small upgrade, the Skywatcher 150PDS Newtonian. I am going to use it both visually and for astrophotography, hence this version. I do already have the T-ring for my Nikon and a T-adapter, BUT, I wanna know if there is an adapter that provides a better grip on the t-adapter, that is low-profile and fits the Skywatcher? Something like the Baader click-lock? I've always been scared of the telescope dropping my DSLR, when it hangs in weird positions, and would ra

Hello, Bought and received my Skywatcher NEQ6 Pro mount yesterday along with a Skywatcher 12v 17ah power supply. This is my first goto mount (had a non computerised EQ5 previously). We've updated the firmware, balanced the scope and tried playing around with the slewing on the hand controller. The mount will only slew in certain directions and not in others dependant on the starting orientation of the telescope. Declination seems to be the biggest culprit. Also is it supposed to sound so loud when it slews/doesn't slew? Any advice would be appreciated, we are out of ideas about how to get

Hey I've just acquired the following: obviously not immediately compatible with my EdgeHD, but I'm betting that there should be a canny way of attaching the finder to the guidescope mount and that in turn to the rear cell of the Edge. Anybody got any ideas, I'm looking for inspiration :-) Kind Regards Paul J.

Hi guys I currently own a 12" skywatcher collapsible dobsonian but need to upgrade now to have goto functionality. It is way to expensive for me though and I can only spend up to 1200 AUD ~ 900 USD. Could anyone please help me think of some alternatives, to track and remotely control my dob? Thanks guys!!

omega centauri A deeper look at Omega Centauri ( NGC 5139 )
MikeODay posted a topic in Imaging - Deep Sky
Update 16th June: I could not wait to tell people that I was just notified that my image of Omega Centauri will be published as a future NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day ( APOD ) - my first ever I will update the thread when they publish. ................................. A deep look at Omega Centauri ( NGC 5139 ) This image is an attempt to look deeply into the the Omega Centauri globular cluster by using HDR techniques to record as many faint stars as I can whilst retaining colour and detail in the bright stars, including at the core ... .............- 40 replies

This has now been sold Hey SGL, So I am looking at getting myself the EQ3 Pro GoTo so I will no longer need my current EQ3-2 Mount (Manual). The condition of the mount is pretty much perfect, has been used no more than 5/6 times since October and as a result cosmetically and mechanically all is very well. I no longer have the box as it was massive and had nowhere to keep it! The only reason for selling is for the GoTo functionality on the Pro version of the mount. I am looking to get £100 for collection or £100 plus postage if posting is required due to distance, will consider

Correcting tilt on Skywatcher 130 PDS
al-alami posted a topic in Discussions - Scopes / Whole setups
Hi, While imaging with my Skywatcher 130 PDS I have discovered that I have some tilt in the focuser. I can see this while trying to collimate, I seem to get a shift when I change the focus. I believe that I can correct this by taking apart the focuser. Does anyone have any experience with taking apart the focuser? and how to correct the tilt? Thank you for your time and feedback. Fakhri PS I hope I posted this in the right place. -
Hey SGL, I have been wanting to get into imaging and have recently purchased a used converted webcam to use with the scope, at the moment i don't have GoTo but i am going to look at getting the upgrade kit for around £300 but naturally i am a little hesitant as i don't think I have taken everything into account! Currently i have: Current Kit - SW 150p w/ EQ3-2 - 2x Barlow - Various EP's - Webcam (arriving soon) Looking to Purchase - EQ3-2 GoTo Upgrade Kit - Some sort of power supply to work with the GoTo Other than a laptop are there any other

I bought this last year from a member on here and it has been an excellent mount, however I have now upgraded to an AZ HEQ6 GT. It has the odd marks of a used Mount, and mechanically it has just returned from being Hypertuned at DarkFrames in Portsmouth. Please see the attached Certificate. In January a Rowan Belt Drive Modification was fitted improving tracking and operation tremendously. In all on top of the original purchase price of £450 I have spent £112 on the Rowan Modification and £289 on the Hypertuning, totalling £851 plus the Pier Extension that took the whole lot over the

Hello, Am very new to this so apologies right from the start. I have recently just bought a skywatcher akyliner dobsonian 200p and i set it up. However the image is very blurry even when i remove all magnification and just look into the primary mirror eveything looks very blurry including the moon or nearby trees etc. I am unsure what the issue could be as i am eager to get started on my stargazing! Could someone please assist me or at the very least point me in the right direction. Kind regards

Part 1. Having purchased a skywatcher 200p dobsonian telescope at the end of last year i feel it was time to start modifying it. This is a thead about all the modifications i have done so far and any that i plan to do. It might help others who have purchased the same scope ( i certainly needed help ) The first thing i noticed was i was struggling sometimes to locate objects in the 9x50 finderscope due to the stars sometimes being dim due to light pollution even using the both eyes method. So the first modifications was to install a rigel quickfinder. I mounted this ontop of the exist

Hi, I took my mount out for the first time in 5 weeks, all went as normal on the aligning, until it finished slewing to the second alignment star... As I tried to use the direction buttons to center Rigel, then I realised it wasn't moving, and the handset said "slewing to...." still. I tuned it off for a bit, came back to it, but the thing wont move at all. It says slewing still, but doesn't actually move. Also it doesn't make a whisper. The handset is seemingly working fine apart from that. Can anyone suggest anything? It's just turned 13 months old also

Hello, I'm saving money to buy a professional telescope for visual observing (deep sky) and astrophotograpy. I was wondering whether someone here has experience with the following equipment: 250/1200 SkyWatcher Newtonian telescope on EQ5 or EQ6 Here is the link to the telescope. As I've never done astrophotography, any other suggestion would be appreciated! Adam

Beardy Bob posted a topic in Sold / Expired Classified Ads
This has been sat boxed up in my garage for a couple of years now since moving to a town with lots of trees and light pollution! It's in great condition optically and physically other than a scratch on the outer paintwork that it's had since I got it (see the bottom picture). Comes complete with tube rings as seen on the pictures. Buyer can collect or I can meet at the Kelling Star Party with it as I'm only a few miles down the road. Reduced to £160. Bob-
