As I have replaced them with new-style versions, I have two old-style ZWO 36mm unmounted narrowband filters for sale: - H-alpha - S-II They are pre-2018, so with both sides silver instead of yellow&purple, and come in the original, but opened, packaging. Condition like new. Attached images have been made with them. Any decent price will do. Nicolàs

Hello I am wondering if anyone has a suggestion that might help me My imaging set up is an RC reflector with an FLI proline 16803 camera and 50mm Astrodon filters (LRGB + 5nm narrow band) I have had a string of issues...everything from my mount had mechanical problems to my telescope had issues with the mirror cell to some family distractions...but at long last I seem to have everything working with the exception of the Astrodon Ha filter. Attached are representative 30minute subframes of the horse head and Pacman nebulae in Ha, SII, and OIII. I get similar results with different objects although for bright, broad spectrum targets like M42, I will get data from the Ha filter (much as the stars shine thru on the HH and Pacman) although even that data does not comport with other imager’s Ha images of those objects. The LRGB performance appears to be normal. My hypothesis is that this Ha filter is defective, perhaps not centered on 656.3nm I have contacted Astrodon and exchanged a couple of emails with Cary Chleborad seeking some help. At first he claimed there was no issue because with enough manipulation some data could be extracted from the Ha. Later, when confronted with the other narrowband frames and the obvious difference to the Ha, at first he ghosted me, but when I said I would ask other imagers for help, he responded with a new position stating that because of the way the filters are made and their robust quality processes, it is impossible for the filter to be defective and therefore something else must be at issue. He does not offer a suggestion of what might be the problem, nor is he interested in having me send the filter back for evaluation. Frankly, I’m more than disappointed given the premium I paid for Astrodon filters All that aside, and taking Cary’s position at face value, does anyone have an idea of what might cause this behavior other than the filter? In a perfect world, does anyone live in the Austin, Texas area who would be willing to try my filter one night and see what they get with their equipment? The attached link is to the raw, uncalibrated files right off the camera. I think a simple blink process in PixInsight will show what I’m talking about. Hi all, my second attempt at imaging over multiple nights, captured 60 mins Ha and a couple of 5 mins on Oiii and Sii on Christmas evening, then added more Oii and Sii on the 30th Total of 60 mins Ha 25 mins Sii and 30 mins Oiii Hubble mapped - SII,Ha,OIII = R,G,B. The Oiii data was very noisy but I'm fairly happy overall, also the ZWO Oiii filter caused a massive ring around Alnitak when stretched ! Comments welcome, I know it needs more data and I will need to learn to be more patient but the year is running out Thanks for looking and have a good 2020.
  4. I went to my family house in the countryside and was able to take some pictures during xmas eve. Total exposure: 6h H_Alpha: ~3h (730x15s) --> R, G Oxigen III: ~3h (710x15s) --> B, G I didn't have a view on Polaris and could not spend too much time drift aligning (it was xmas eve after all :D) hence the short exposures. Moreover I dont have the proper connection rings to put my flattener on my mono camera so all stars off center are a mess :_(.

Having acquired an ASI 1600MM Pro earlier in the year, this is my first attempt at a wide field Ha/OIII bicolour, using a Borg 55FL scope. 15 x 240s Ha and 15 x 240s OIII, integrated and combined in APP and edited in Star Tools. I assigned Ha to the Red Channel and OIII to Blue and Green, but would be grateful for any tips on combining channels for bi-colour images. I also tried combining with the LRGB Tool in Star Tools, assigning Ha to Red and OIII to Green, allowing STar Tools to synthesise the missing data. The result was interesting, but did not produce the 'traditional' Red/Cyan colours of this target. Apologies, maybe someone can advise how I can insert the image into this post, rather than have it as an attachment please? Cheers Dave
  8. I'm back from holiday and my 130P-DS imaging scope is being under surgery for a secondary mirror replacement and cutting a bit the focuser. Since last night I had a few hours of clear sky, I put the camera on my SkyWatcher StarTravel 102 achromat. 102/500. It has a focuser upgrade and I used the OVL field flattener that I purchased for using it with my small 72ED. I placed the sensor ~55mm away from the flattener's thread and the image seems pretty flat. I always wondered if this fast achromat could be used for narrowband imaging and I did not find too many examples on this internet. I hope this will help more people trying to find out if it's worthy or not. I let the image speak for itself. 6x60s with the ASI1600 and an Optolong 7nm Ha filter. Clear skies! Alex
  9. Hello all, I'm starting a new thread for this since the hydrogen data is rather old and it has been reprocessed since I posted a while ago. Now I finished the acquisition of O[III] too. Or sort of, I planned more, but clear nights were so rare that I decided to process what I had. The image was done in "3 pass" data over the area. That means that I acquired 3 sets of images covering the same area and combined in the end. First 2 in hydrogen, the last in oxygen. First set consisted of 3 panels in portrait mode for the top area and then I wanted to extend them to the bottom so I shot another 2 panels in landscape mode. I knew that I could get a higher SNR so I shot 4 more panels in landscape mode. Each panel consists of 30-31 subs, each sub 300s. Then I started the acquisition of O[III] which needed light pollution and moonlight conditions than the Ha required. Top panels contain 30 subs, but the bottom ones, only 20-22. Each 300s. Luckily there's not much oxygen in that area so I could get away with less subs. I also took some 10s-30s frames for M42's core. For the framing, I created a quick mosaic of the same area. For the final alignment I shot an image somewhere close to the center of this area. I can't remember if the initial register was done in APP or Registar - for the first pass, but for the next ones it was done in Registar. I removed the gradient manually in each stack with APP and then I created the mosaics for each pass same with APP. The 2 Ha passes I then blended manually 50%-50%. For the processing, I tried to stretch both Ha and O[III] to the same levels and I combined them manually in some 60-40/70-30 ratio for a layer which I used as lum. The colours were Ha - reddish, O[III] - cyan-blue. I spent a lot of time trying to control the big stars, the O[III] filter has poor coatings and, together with the ASI1600s non AR coated sensor, I had much brighter reflections than with the Ha filter. And I tried to raise the oxygen levels selectively around the flame and NGC2023, but the flame is really dim in O[III]. Don't know what other details in the story I forgot, this project drained me a lot of energy. Camera was ASI1600MMC, cooled to -15C for the first pass and to -25C for the ones following. Gain 139. Canon 300 F4 L IS lens with a lot of aberrations towards the edges. AZ-EQ5 mount guided with a 200mm lens and an ASI120MM, with varying seeing. 1.5-2.5" RMS guiding error usually. APT for capture, PHD2 for guiding, Registar for each night initial alignment. DSS, APP, Registar, StarTools, GIMP for processing. I started shooting early in October and I wanted much more, but Orion already becomes less and less visible from where I image and hides beyond the house.   10. It was only nautical dark in the nights here in Norway when i took these, but gave narrowband a try with my QHY5L-II-M anyway, and the results are not bad at all for such a camera i think. It's noisy, but i guess with this little data and a planetary/guide-cam i guess that's to be expected. With more time i think it will give decent results. Taken with the QHY5L-II-M cooled to around -5c and and Olympus OM 50mm F/1.8 lens at F/2.8 OIII 8.5nm: 10x 600s with gain at 20. Ha 7nm: 15x 600s with gain at 12 (i think). No darks, flats or bias.
  11. Hi there, I'm hoping to buy an OIII filter for astro-imaging and i've read a lot of halo related posts and am unsure which to go for. Are the Baader OIII now halo-free? it sounds like OIII are notorious in general for halos and i want to be reasonably sure before i hand any money over. My astronomik ha 1.25" shows bad haloes, but the clip version doesn't although that one is newer. Will the astronomik OIII clip be halo-free? I am unable to reach the budget necessary for Astrodon, so i'm thinking the next best will be either Baader or Astronomik, is this pretty accurate or am i missing a manufacturer? Many thanks for any assistance in advance!

Finally managed to add some proper Ha to the previous version (which was a noisy mess of a thing!), so this is now: 7 x 600s and 14 x 900s (4 hrs 40 mins) of Ha 17 x 900s (4 hrs 15 mins) of OIII SII synthesized using a blend of 60% of Ha and 40% of OIII Nikon D5300a 2" Baader filters Skywatcher 80ED Skywatcher HEQ5 Pro 50 Bias and 30 Flats Guided with PHD2 and a finder-guider (QHY5) Captured with SGP Pre-processed in APP Post-processed in PS The extra Ha data has made a massive difference. So this one was much easier to process. Still not completely happy with the colours, I may tweak them a bit at a later date.   13. Hello all! I acquired yesterday the third hydrogen panel of this area. I might add 2 more below, in landscape. We shall see how the weather plays. 2.5h each panel in 300s subs at unity gain. And some 30s exposures for the core. Camera is ASI1600MMC on the Canon 300 F4 L lens, cooled to -15C. And first successful try with the Astro Pixel Processor, though, the stacks were made with DSS. I just purchased APP and I didn't restack them. I'm not sure if I should add more hydrogen data or move to oxygen and then LRGB. I still have time to decide until Feb-March.   14. Hello all, I think I'm done with this target this season at least. I acquired 2x6h of Ha data with a Canon 300 F4 L lens (~300mm FL F/4), maybe 2x4-5h of O3 data with the a Tair 3s (300mm FL F/4.5), another 2-3h of Ha with a Pentacon 200 (200mm FL F/4), 3h of O3 with the Pentacon, 4h of S2 with the Pentacon and 3x25m (3 panels) for each RGB with the Tair. All narrowband subs were 300s long and the RGB were 60s long if I remember well. All at unity gain, cooled between -10C and -15C. Shot from the balcony under white light pollution. I made a narrowband combination with the Ha and just a bit from the others used as lum and 40S-60Ha as red, O3 as green and 30Ha-70O3 as blue. Combined in StarTools and GIMP. Software used: APT, PHD, DSS, StarTools, GIMP, Registar. The RGB and narrowband images don't cover the same area perfectly so some stars in the left side are a little more bloated as I couldn't control them.   15. Second image with QSI660. 10x200second subs in Ha, Oiii and Sii. Combined in Maxim with Hubble palette (ish0. the green seems a bit strong, but I suppose that reflects the high Ha levels being dominant.) Darks and Bias frames used for calibration. No flats.
  16. Hello all, I just got the O3 and the S2 filters this weekend after 2 months of waiting. I bought initially an Optolong Ha and I thought to buy the O3 and S2 also from Optolong. They O3 and S2 are advertised as being 6.5nm which also contributed to go for them instead of the Baader's. Anyway, I acquired some 3 hours if I remember well with the Ha in 1min subs and now just above 2 hours with the O3 in 3min subs. Unfortunately, I can image to the south only up to ~130 degrees in AZ. So the good skies around 180 degrees where objects reach the max altitude are not reachable from home. I have to give it a try later in spring from outside.   17. Hi all Just thought I'd put this out there to try and get some opinions. From time to time I've been imaging in Ha with a 2" Baader 7nm. It's fine except that I still get lp gradients which is very annoying. I'm wondering whether doubling up would likely help? There are the Astrodon 3nm or 5nm but they are fiendishly expensive, especially in the larger size. Any thoughts/experiences? I'm quite happy with what I can get with the the 7nm - it's just the lp.... Cheers Louise
