Hi everyone! The Tadpole Nebula and the Flaming Star Nebula captured over three nights of the unexpected nice weather we had a couple of weeks ago. A number of firsts with this image: 1. My first mosaic - keeping it simple with two panes! 2. First time I left my imaging rig outside... (I used a telegizmo cover) and it was perfect, allowing me to get imaging very quickly on each night 3. First time using powerful scripting tools in my capture software, APT, to move to the second pane and starting imaging automatically...worked really well! APP was used for pre-processing

Hello Astro Peeps, I hope everyone is all good! Isn't there some amazing images on this site and others. Amateur imaging has never been so good! I myself have finally managed to get some data for an image, of which I am very happy. It has been so hot here it has been impossible to get any good data. One day a couple of months ago, I hung the thermometer from the grape vine under the back verandah and it was 47.5°C. Sounds far fetched, although true. Finally completed my SHO version. There is some purple in the image I cannot figure out how to get rid of and I'm sick of playing with it. Hi everyone, The North America and Pelican nebulae are situated in the Cygnus constellation and are thought to be 1800 light years away. My favourite part of the image is "The Wall", which is the "Mexico" part of the North America nebula and is a source of intense star formation. The data for this image was collected all on one night and therefore could do with more integration, but I like the result. I've used my go-to "natural blend" narrowband (as originally suggested by Jon Rista on Cloudy Nights): R = 76%*Ha + 24%*SII G = OIII B = 85%*OIII + 15%*Ha I personally pre

Hello, I've been trying lately to acquire some data on the Elephant's trunk nebula area. I managed 2-3 hours one week ago on Ha on more than one night, after 4AM. Pretty tough the following days at work. As it was more a test for the next months when it will get high enough at reasonable hours, the subs were binned and I also wanted to shoot S2 and O3 just too see what's out there. I did this this morning, but there seems to be much less S and O emitting compared to H. Bellow is the Ha image, the S2 and O3 are waiting to be processed, but I'm afraid I can't get anything usable just f

Hello all, I started a while ago shooting the bubble and the M52, first in Ha, then RGB and then O3 too. 25min on each RGB channel, 5-6 h on Ha and 1.5h on O3. Here is the result: Then I asked myself if I should shoot L, more RGB, more narrowband or if I should go for another target. And I decided that I should try a mosaic in this area and catch the lobster claw too. The decision being took, I went below, left and then above again for panels 2, 3 and 4. R first, some of the G after. The rest of G and the B the next night. Last night I also shot 45 minutes of O3 on each of the

Hello all, I've been capturing photons lately on the IC1396 with a Canon 300 F4 L lens on an ASI 1600 MMC. I did that for about last month during which I didn't take the camera and the filters off the lens. My balcony is pointed towards ~NEE so I can only see and image the sky between ~30 and ~140 degrees in azimuth and up to ~50 in altitude (with some tricks I can extend that). I shot the Ha sometimes also with the moon still up in the sky, sometimes without, when the trunk rose above ~25 degrees in altitude, the O3 above ~30 degrees and the S2 above ~25 too. Does it make any sense to shoot H-beta along H-alpha for narrowband imaging? They are both arising from the same element, although I don't know whether their ratio remains the same for all emission nebulae...

The fine, dry conditions that we had for a few nights in the last couple of weeks enabled me to capture about 9 hours of narrowband data of M1. I need to capture some new flats following a slight change to the imaging train so the image below is not as good as it might be but it still is worth showing, I hope. I'll reprocess when I have the new flats and post an update. Equipment: TS (GSO) 12" truss RC (Operating at 1700 mm Focal Length with AP focal reducer) with modified back plate, Mesu200, Atik383L+, Atik EFW2, Lodestar X2 on Atik OAG Captured with MaxImDl and processed in Pixins

Not posted for a bit, but I did recently capture some half way respectable OIII data for the Crab, which I've here combined with some Ha/S/Lum data from last year - some of it reprocessed. This is with the C9.25 with reducer and Atik 460, which I think gives a nice image scale for this object if you want to see the pulsar properly and a bit of structure (but don't bother at this scale without an off-axis-guider). Colourful Ha(red)/S(green)/O(blue) palette :-). (About 12 hours all in) Tim

Hello all, I just got the O3 and the S2 filters this weekend after 2 months of waiting. I bought initially an Optolong Ha and I thought to buy the O3 and S2 also from Optolong. They O3 and S2 are advertised as being 6.5nm which also contributed to go for them instead of the Baader's. Anyway, I acquired some 3 hours if I remember well with the Ha in 1min subs and now just above 2 hours with the O3 in 3min subs. Unfortunately, I can image to the south only up to ~130 degrees in AZ. So the good skies around 180 degrees where objects reach the max altitude are not reachable from home. I

A very rushed "First Light" image of my new kit. Many friends here know what I've recently purchased, but officially here is the announcement. Its a QHY9 Monochrome CCD camera with a Slim filter wheel for 7 x 36mm round filters. There are also LRGB Ha OIII and SII filters purchased. I also got a QHY5L-II guider and some other adapters to fit the whole thing together. After a couple tries, first light was last night and i've deviated from the M42 aka Orion Nebula image. Hi all Just thought I'd put this out there to try and get some opinions. From time to time I've been imaging in Ha with a 2" Baader 7nm. It's fine except that I still get lp gradients which is very annoying. I'm wondering whether doubling up would likely help? There are the Astrodon 3nm or 5nm but they are fiendishly expensive, especially in the larger size. Any thoughts/experiences? I'm quite happy with what I can get with the the 7nm - it's just the lp.... Cheers Louise

Hi all, I wanted to buy my first narrowband filter. I decided on a 7nm Ha filter. Among the options, there were the Baader 7nm and the Optolong 7nm. I chose the Optolong even though I heard that the colour ones are Astronomik copies. However, I searched some comparisons between the Baader and the Optolong and the Baader seemed to have some halos. I decided on the Optolong. However, I don't have a proper imaging camera and for a while I'll be testing it with the ASI120MM I have. Plans for a larger sensor camera. Yesterday I received the filter and had some tries on M42. My balcony win

Had my first go at this target in narrowband with the QHY5L-II-M. Was very skeptical if i could use the extremely faint and noisy OIII data at all, but i think it did somehow work, although it's a bit on the noisy side. all in all i'm very happy with the result, especially for my first attempt. Not sure if i made the proper color balance though? Any tips and thoughts are welcome. Captured with the QHY5L-II-M at 50% gain, unguided with a 135mm F/3.5 Olympus lens. 100x 120sec OIII 47x 120sec Ha

This is 63 x 300s with a 7nm Ha Altair filter, so a total of 5 hours and 15 minutes. It needs much more and perhaps some longer subs too before I start collecting the O3 data to go with it.

Taken last night a bi-colour image of NGC 1514 Planetary nebula. 18 x 6 mins in h-alpha, and the same in OIII. Camera was a mono atik 314....taken through the skywatcher MN190.

Hello I am wondering if anyone has a suggestion that might help me My imaging set up is an RC reflector with an FLI proline 16803 camera and 50mm Astrodon filters (LRGB + 5nm narrow band) I have had a string of issues...everything from my mount had mechanical problems to my telescope had issues with the mirror cell to some family distractions...but at long last I seem to have everything working with the exception of the Astrodon Ha filter. Hi there, I'm hoping to buy an OIII filter for astro-imaging and i've read a lot of halo related posts and am unsure which to go for. Are the Baader OIII now halo-free? it sounds like OIII are notorious in general for halos and i want to be reasonably sure before i hand any money over. My astronomik ha 1.25" shows bad haloes, but the clip version doesn't although that one is newer. Will the astronomik OIII clip be halo-free? I am unable to reach the budget necessary for Astrodon, so i'm thinking the next best will be either Baader or Astronomik

While i was indeed satisfied with my HaRGB picture of M27, i couldn't resist giving a bicolor a go as i only needed some OIII data. Taken with the QHY5L-II-M and the Explorer 200. Camera cooled, i can't remember exact temp, but i believe around -10c. 7nm Ha: 47x 60 sec, gain = 1000 in firecapture 8.5nm OIII: 60x 60 sec, gain = 1000 in firecapture

It was only nautical dark in the nights here in Norway when i took these, but gave narrowband a try with my QHY5L-II-M anyway, and the results are not bad at all for such a camera i think. It's noisy, but i guess with this little data and a planetary/guide-cam i guess that's to be expected. With more time i think it will give decent results. Taken with the QHY5L-II-M cooled to around -5c and and Olympus OM 50mm F/1.8 lens at F/2.8 OIII 8.5nm: 10x 600s with gain at 20. Ha 7nm: 15x 600s with gain at 12 (i think). No darks, flats or bias.

Second image with QSI660. 10x200second subs in Ha, Oiii and Sii. Combined in Maxim with Hubble palette (ish0. the green seems a bit strong, but I suppose that reflects the high Ha levels being dominant.) Darks and Bias frames used for calibration. No flats.

Hi guys, Managed to get some OIII data to go with my previous Ha of the Rosette nebula, still very short (only 7x900 sec. frames of OIII) but it's strating to look nice, it really brings a new dimension to the image, not too happy with the blue halos though, once I have more OIII data I will reprocess, the weather is looking good today...let's see https://www.flickr.c...eposted-public/ Cheers,
