Hello all, I'm starting a new thread for this since the hydrogen data is rather old and it has been reprocessed since I posted a while ago. Now I finished the acquisition of O[III] too. Or sort of, I planned more, but clear nights were so rare that I decided to process what I had. The image was done in "3 pass" data over the area. That means that I acquired 3 sets of images covering the same area and combined in the end. First 2 in hydrogen, the last in oxygen. Hi guys Been busy the last wee while, so haven't done much imaging lately, but i did at least finally get around to processing my Soul Nebula data from a couple of weeks back. So this is 220 mins of Ha, and the same again of OIII, all 20 min subs. With the usual 30 flats and 50 Bias, with aggressive dithering. Shot through a SW 80ED on a HEQ5 Pro mount. Captured in SGP, pre-processed in APP, and post-processed in Photoshop. I used a slightly different method this time. Having acquired an ASI 1600MM Pro earlier in the year, this is my first attempt at a wide field Ha/OIII bicolour, using a Borg 55FL scope. 15 x 240s Ha and 15 x 240s OIII, integrated and combined in APP and edited in Star Tools. I assigned Ha to the Red Channel and OIII to Blue and Green, but would be grateful for any tips on combining channels for bi-colour images. I also tried combining with the LRGB Tool in Star Tools, assigning Ha to Red and OIII to Green, allowing STar Tools to synthesise the missing data. Hey-ho So then, just as i thought the DSO season was well and truly over for me until late August/early September, as it turned out last Saturday night (May 5th) was mostly clear, so i set about trying to finish the NAN image i had captured in Ha a while back (see thread below): So all i needed was some OIII. It's obviously not the ideal time of year to capture this i know, as it's so low on the horizon, but beggar's can't be choosers so i tried my best to make the most of the small amount of astro dark time available and just make the best of it. I'm back from holiday and my 130P-DS imaging scope is being under surgery for a secondary mirror replacement and cutting a bit the focuser. Since last night I had a few hours of clear sky, I put the camera on my SkyWatcher StarTravel 102 achromat. 102/500. It has a focuser upgrade and I used the OVL field flattener that I purchased for using it with my small 72ED. I placed the sensor ~55mm away from the flattener's thread and the image seems pretty flat. I always wondered if this fast achromat could be used for narrowband imaging and I did not find too many examples on this internet.

Managed a reasonably decent imaging session last weekend and had a go at one of my favourite little targets M97 The Owl Nebula in Ursa Major imaged 04.05.2018 William Optics FLT-110 refractor and Atik 314L monochrome CCD with Baader narrowband filters 10 x 300 seconds H-Alpha, 10 x 300 seconds H-Beta and 10 x 300 seconds OIII Assigned to R, G & B channels respectively to give a false colour image

Hi My first serious go at a narrowband image taken over a few nights from my back garden in not-so-darkest North Staffs Ha: 30 x 300s OIII: 28 x 150s R: 22 x 30s G: 22 x 30s B: 22 x 30s (I also took a whole load of L lights but didn't use them in this versions - still feeling my way in to NB imaging) RGB lights used for star colours only. Finally managed to add some proper Ha to the previous version (which was a noisy mess of a thing!), so this is now: 7 x 600s and 14 x 900s (4 hrs 40 mins) of Ha 17 x 900s (4 hrs 15 mins) of OIII SII synthesized using a blend of 60% of Ha and 40% of OIII Nikon D5300a 2" Baader filters Skywatcher 80ED Skywatcher HEQ5 Pro 50 Bias and 30 Flats Guided with PHD2 and a finder-guider (QHY5) Captured with SGP Pre-processed in APP Post-processed in PS The extra Ha data has made a massive difference. Hello all, I think I'm done with this target this season at least. I acquired 2x6h of Ha data with a Canon 300 F4 L lens (~300mm FL F/4), maybe 2x4-5h of O3 data with the a Tair 3s (300mm FL F/4.5), another 2-3h of Ha with a Pentacon 200 (200mm FL F/4), 3h of O3 with the Pentacon, 4h of S2 with the Pentacon and 3x25m (3 panels) for each RGB with the Tair. All narrowband subs were 300s long and the RGB were 60s long if I remember well. All at unity gain, cooled between -10C and -15C. Shot from the balcony under white light pollution. It seems that none of my glass optics doesn't want to play nice anymore. I started this 2 panel mosaic while shooting for the bubble area, on Ha, with the Canon 300 F4 L lens. In the beginning it went better, but at some point the IS elements decolimated and I just couldn't luckily align it ok again (by attaching back to the camera and focusing with the IS on and then detaching it). I tried one round with the O3, but then I switched to the Tair 3s. The total on this target is like this: 6 h of Ha on each panel, 1:x h of Canon O3 + 1:15 of Tair O3 on each panel. That means ~17h in total. I

Hello all! I acquired yesterday the third hydrogen panel of this area. I might add 2 more below, in landscape. We shall see how the weather plays. 2.5h each panel in 300s subs at unity gain. And some 30s exposures for the core. Camera is ASI1600MMC on the Canon 300 F4 L lens, cooled to -15C. And first successful try with the Astro Pixel Processor, though, the stacks were made with DSS. I just purchased APP and I didn't restack them. I'm not sure if I should add more hydrogen data or move to oxygen and then LRGB. I still have time to decide until Feb-March. More details: http://w

Hello all, I started a while ago shooting the bubble and the M52, first in Ha, then RGB and then O3 too. 25min on each RGB channel, 5-6 h on Ha and 1.5h on O3. Here is the result: Then I asked myself if I should shoot L, more RGB, more narrowband or if I should go for another target. And I decided that I should try a mosaic in this area and catch the lobster claw too. The decision being took, I went below, left and then above again for panels 2, 3 and 4. Hi all,just wanting to pic someone's brains.. As normally with a DSLR imaging during a full moon seems to be a waste of time and as a Ha filter cuts throu the l.p. a little,is it possible to do some HA narrowband imaging with a DSLR? I have a 12nm Ha filter,would that work or does the bandwidth have to be narrower to cut the l.p. out.. so it be like a Ha,rgb image..Or is this just for the ccd owners?

We had a patch of clear skies last Sunday night, and even though it was bitterly cold (and there was ice and snow everywhere) I made the executive decision to get outside and have a go nonetheless. I have to setup and teardown each session, but thankfully I was able to move the car a few metres and take advantage of the nice dry (and ice free) ground underneath. The plan was to grab some OIII data to go with the Ha I captured on the Heart Nebula a couple of weeks back (see link below) but all I could manage was 8 x 1200s before the clouds rolled in for good. Hi all I'm just starting the plunge to the deep end of mono and narrowband imaging. I have read the available info from here (SGL) and other sources but the findings seem to be rather inconclusive. So here's the thing. Some of our fellow imagers seem to be boosting the nb signal by using luminance channel. Methods for LUM vary from using just the Ha, using all the nb channels combined or using lum filter or better yet using ccd grade light pollution filter. I'm sure there are other methods as well..? I think I'm done with the Hydrogen layer for these nebulae. I started 3 weeks ago a 4 panel mosaic with the 130PDS. I shot around 2h on each panel in 180s subs at 300 gain. And recently I thought to lower the noise in the darker areas and I shot another 7h with the Canon 300 F4 L and I combined the dark areas. I see now that I should have taken more frames with the scope as the quality of the image taken through the lens is way lower. Anyway, I still combined them a bit. I present you an image of the Flaming star nebula and the Tadpoles. I have 2 versions. Ha only and HOO. I started with 4 panels mosaic shot with the 130PDS, each panel is ~2h exposures. Then I shot another 7.5h with the Canon 300 F4 L lens, but the result was awful, compared to the mosaic. So I added this only in a small amount and only on the darker areas of the image. For the O3 image I only used the Canon lens. The IS element inside gives me a lot of headaches, and I have coma in some corners, other corners are out of focus, etc. And it behaves differently each session. Not

The fine, dry conditions that we had for a few nights in the last couple of weeks enabled me to capture about 9 hours of narrowband data of M1. I need to capture some new flats following a slight change to the imaging train so the image below is not as good as it might be but it still is worth showing, I hope. I'll reprocess when I have the new flats and post an update. Hi all, I wanted to buy my first narrowband filter. I decided on a 7nm Ha filter. Among the options, there were the Baader 7nm and the Optolong 7nm. I chose the Optolong even though I heard that the colour ones are Astronomik copies. However, I searched some comparisons between the Baader and the Optolong and the Baader seemed to have some halos. I decided on the Optolong. However, I don't have a proper imaging camera and for a while I'll be testing it with the ASI120MM I have. Plans for a larger sensor camera. Yesterday I received the filter and had some tries on M42. My balcony win

This is 63 x 300s with a 7nm Ha Altair filter, so a total of 5 hours and 15 minutes. It needs much more and perhaps some longer subs too before I start collecting the O3 data to go with it.

Does it make any sense to shoot H-beta along H-alpha for narrowband imaging? They are both arising from the same element, although I don't know whether their ratio remains the same for all emission nebulae...

Had my first go at this target in narrowband with the QHY5L-II-M. Was very skeptical if i could use the extremely faint and noisy OIII data at all, but i think it did somehow work, although it's a bit on the noisy side. all in all i'm very happy with the result, especially for my first attempt. Not sure if i made the proper color balance though? Any tips and thoughts are welcome. Captured with the QHY5L-II-M at 50% gain, unguided with a 135mm F/3.5 Olympus lens. 100x 120sec OIII 47x 120sec Ha
