Hi,I'm looking for experts advice about eyepieces. For constellations and general obseration looking for 40mm eyepiece ,just not decided which one is better for 250mm Newton and 180mm Cassegrain. Have aimed on Meade 40mm SW and TeleVue Panoptic 41mm. Finally or at the beginning must ask for advice if those 40-41mm 68 ° eyepieces gives more wide view than 30mm ES 82°? Appreciate experts advice.

Offered for sale is an Explore Scientific 68 degree Maxvision 24mm eyepiece in excellent optical and cosmetic condition with original caps and box. This is the 1.25" eyepiece that sold out some time ago. The performance is very good, but I have a 24mm Televue Panoptic that I prefer and this eyepiece isn't getting used enough to keep. The price is £50 including postage and packaging within the UK. Payment by PayPal or cash on collection please. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. James

I'm interested in a 16mm ES68 eyepiece to test against my Nirvana 16mm (which FOV do I like best?). Must be in excellent condition with caps and box. If you have one you're willing to part with I'd love to see some pictures and find out your price. James

Hi all, I am currently split on my next purchase for my telescope (Skywatcher Startravel ST120). As you can see from my list of equipment I already have quite a few EP's, yet FLO has a good offer on a 5mm Skywatcher SWA 70 degree EP (http://www.firstlightoptics.com/clearance/sky-watcher-swa-70-eyepieces.html ). However, I was also considering getting a starter imaging camera from Celestron (http://www.firstlightoptics.com/clearance/celestron-neximage-solar-system-imager.html). I like the EP as it fits both 2" & 1.25" diagonals which I have, and think the quality of the EP will

Hey, whenever I clean my eyepieces or filters, theres always a mark left from the cleaning tissue. What am I doing wrong or is this normal? Also, Im using optical grade tissue paper. Is it better to use a microfiber cloth? Thanks for the advice.

Hi For sale: set of BST Explorer ED 25, 18, 15, 12mm and 8mm BST ED Starguider Eyepieces. I recently bought these eyepieces with a scope on SGL and they are in as new condition. They are wasted on me as I only use eyepieces for alignment before imaging. I want to sell them as a set so will not consider splitting at this stage. I would like to sell for £150 for the set. Collection preferred, but I might be able to deliver within reasonable distance by arrangement. Thanks Barry

So I have recently just gotten the Saxon 200mm reflecting telescope, and with it I received an erecting eyepeice to view terestial objects. Problem is, people are saying to insert into threads and I've tried to do that but it doesn't fit? How do I correctly place the erecting eyepiece onto the telescope? Please help! Images of regular eyepeice for space objects (28mm) and other parts included to help.

Hi all I am putting together an oil-bath auto-collimator rig to check over my reflectors. It occurred to me to use an off-axis guider body and its pick-off prism to feed the light source in - no heath robinson pipe assembling. Then I can just use a positive eyepiece where the camera should go to examine the ronchi lines to estimate the optics quality. This raises the question - I would need to put the ronchi screen on the telescope side of the prism - say in a filter mount . Is this too far from the source ? Is the source to ronchi screen distance important ? Cheers

I have been looking at the Stargazer's Stellarscope (link below) sold by 'The Original Gift Company' but it has no reviews... does anyone know anything about it. Such as, is it any good, etc? TIA http://www.theoriginalgift.co.uk/ogc/stargazers-stellarscope-1985040?cm_mmc=pla-_-google-_-shopping-_-1985040&gclid=CjwKEAjwtNbABRCsqO7J0_uJxWYSJAAiVo5LiED0BjlY7M5vWICO8ueswaRv2KQXOw3oOjvbUjZINxoC7wXw_wcB

Hi, I recently bought an orion XT8 dobsonian (focal length: 1200, f ratio: 5.9). It came with a 25mm plossl and I bought an 11mm 82 degree explore scientific, mainly for use on small deep sky objects. I am looking to buy a planetary eyepiece. I really enjoy using the ES eyepiece so was considering buying either the 6.7mm or 4.7mm ones. The 6.7 doesn't seem to offer enough magnification and its focal length seems too close to my 11mm but if I bought the 4.7mm, I'd worry about its performance (someone told me that using an eyepiece with a focal length near the focal ratio of the teles

barlow lens Barlow Lens Help
BetelgeuseAlpha posted a topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Hey guys I'm an aspiring beginner astronomer and observer, and I recently inherited my grandfather's old telescope. It is a Meade Quartz with the LX Pulse drive. Only one problem, he left me with no instructions. I learned about the Barlow lens, and how it magnifies the normal eyepiece, the only problem is I have no idea how to attach it. The hole where I normally fit an eyepiece is far too large for it to fit. The size of the hole can fit a 26mm lens. Is it because I have brands mixing and it can only fit a Meade Barlow? I appreciate the help. -
Hi all, I'm looking at buying a Skyliner 200p scope second-hand, but it doesn't included a mount or eyepieces. Is it possible to: - Pair this scope with reasonably a priced mount (<£100) or even a tripod used for birdwatching (do you need a specific mount for this scope?) - Get an OK set of eyepieces (<£50) used for seeing planets and some beginner DSO. - Advise me on a telescope mount and eyepieces compatible with the Skyliner 200p for the prices stated above. The reason i'm asking is because my funds are limited ATM, so i'd like to buy a decent tele

I have no idea how this is possible, as I don't take my eyepieces with me anywhere other than outside, but I managed to "misplace" my 10mm eyepiece, which came with the telescope. This may be a blessing in disguise since I can now upgrade it to a higher quality one. That being said.... I'm taking suggestions for quality, but reasonably priced replacements. Also, I'm curious about this "Luminos" series I see form Celestron. Any thoughts/ideas about them? Are they overpriced, or worth it? If they're worth it, why? Thank You, Jon

It's been a week since Christmas. How about some reports on new eyepieces received as gifts (or bought for yourself)? To get things started, I received a 17mm ES-92 and have had a couple of chances to use it in both a coma corrected dob and a flat field short tube refractor. It's easy to use with eyeglasses, has a very wide field of view that can be seen all at once without straining, is as sharp at the edge as a Delos (which is to say as sharp as at the center), has no discernable field curvature, and seems to have nearly constant angular magnification across the field. The weight and

Thanks to recommendations from this forum, I recently purchased a Bresser AR-102s/600 refractor. (I apologise for the rubbish weather lately, it is obviously my fault. ) The supplied (1.25in) diagonal is very cheap, all-plastic construction. Even the barrels. And I would like to upgrade as soon as possible. This telescope accepts 2" accessories, so I want to begin by getting a decent diagonal, then upgrade eyepieces later. I had my eye on a William Optics 2" Dielectric Diagonal, but then saw an Altair Quartz Dielectric Diagonal 2" Push-fit for almost half the price. Altair als

Is anyone able to offer some suggestions as to an eyepiece upgrade for my Heritage 130P? It came with a pretty OK 25mm eyepiece (and a less OK 10mm) and I've invested in a Celestron Omni 2 x Barlow and a Omni 15mm eyepiece. But I'm hoping to find a better quality eyepiece to replace the generic 25mm. Ideally I'd like something in the 25-20mm range - soemthing with a wide FoV for Deep Sky (mainly galaxies) observing. Thanks for your input.

Hey SGL, So i have purchased a set of Celestron EP's with some filters and upon inspection some of the filters seem to not look overly "clean"? Several of them have what could be best described as water marks whilst another has a piece of something on the filter... Am i able to clean these at all or would it damage them? I haven't got round to checking the EP's but i would hope they are all okay! Celestron Eyepiece and Filter Kit 1.25in (Purchased from here too) If anyone has any advice on cleaning them (if possible without damaging them) or what to do that would be great I am

As a rookie stargazer, and someone that has replied heavily on this website and it's very, very helpful members, I want to take a moment to reiterate what I've been told on here over and over again.... If you're a new night sky enthusiast, I can't stress enough the difference that a quality eyepiece makes when viewing objects through the scope. If you're going to spend time outside (especially during the cold winter months), then get the most out of that time. INVEST IN GOOD, QUALITY EYEPIECES. The difference is substantial and well worth the extra paper. So thank you for al

Hello everyone! Newbie here, Just registered after looking around the net, trying to find answers! I've always been interested in stargazing, never got a scope, though, Until now, Me and my 6year old decided to get one, I got an Astromaster 130eq, for free, as it has a broken leg brace, and the eyepiece was toast, (I bought a new eyepiece, and got a leg brace on the way) The eyepiece I got, Was a generic brand, and it's a 40mm one, (I got a 40mm one as the broken one was also 40mm) Today me and my son got our first look at the Moon, which we both loved! Now however, I've been l

Finally I got my hands on one of these eypieces pretty much by accident but a happy one ? Build Quality The quality of the eyepiece is top draw as I'm sure you would expect it's very solid and doesn't feel like you would drop it because of the grip round the middle. The lense is huge which you would expect because of the FOV this eyepiece provides. The bottom of the EP has both fitting for 1.25 and 2 diagonal sizes if needed. Session So the session began for me as it always does I setup my Celestron Nexstar 6se then align the scope using my ES 68. My first ta

Guys/Girls, I have the basic Celestron EP and filter set that seems to be the same across all makes with the only difference of the name branding on the metal carrycase. I have made enquiries for a decent eyepiece for planets and moon and also the larger DSO's and have been pointed in the direction of the Baader Hyperion Zoom MK 4 which falls within my £200 budget. Any user opinions on this ep and experience? Other suggestions welcome! Thanks

Hi everyone! My telescope came with 2 eyepieces, a super 25mm and a super 10mm. The other day I was looking at the moon (using my super 25mm and a x2 Barlow as always) and I decided to swap round my super 25mm to my super 10mm and it was a much better image! I could see right into the surface and view the craters inside the craters! Can someone please explain why the smaller diameter eyepiece works better? Thanks
