Hello! I have been really inactive here, so apologies. Here are a few images of the Solar Eclipse, happened on 21 June 2020. It was annular, but partial from Mumbai region (around 60% covered). Maximum phase of the eclipse was at around 11:30 a.m. IST. This is actually onset of our 4-5 months of monsoon season, so getting decent skies was a tough part. Luckily got decent cleared patches here and there with occasional rains. I had to use whatever I had to make a comfortable view of the eclipse, thanks to the lockdown. I simply took a box, made a whole of the size of the ey

An image created by the NASA visualisation studio of what a lunar eclipse would look like from the surface of the moon! Pretty cool right? If you want to get a better understanding of what is happening and why, you can checkout this article HERE which goes into the theory behind it all and also shows you what a solar eclipse would look like from the surface of the moon.

Appreciate there are a lot of Lunar eclipse images out there. After the eclipse I wanted to put together a composite image (if that’s the term) as I have never done that before. Any way, I’ve thrown this together. Thank you for viewing

We had gorgeous skies here from 3:30 am so I watched the whole thing. I took a few colour snaps with my Canon DSLR through the ED80 and here are a couple untouched. Marvellous experience. 4:42 am 5:13am

Totality of the Longest duration total lunar eclipse of the century. While this is just one image, given that Bangalore was completely clouded out, or rather, my location was completely clouded out, I had previously planned to put the mount and scope on tracking, so that even if there was a break in the clouds for a few seconds, I should be able to capture the moment. The shot below was taken through hazy conditions, but given that the conditions were such, I am happy with the outcome. The next eclipse is due to occur on 21st Jan 2019(?). I shall be better prepared. Scope: Orion 80ED with

Hello everyone, here is my first attempt at shooting the moon. Taken on 31-01-18 near Melbourne Aust using a Canon EOS1300D attached to an old Saxon 100x400 refractor. I was quite surprised to see a few stars had also been captured. The only editing done was to use a blue filter to get rid of some chromatic abberation.

Hello, I am new to Registax 6. Tried stacking lunar eclipse photos (used JPG images, could not get right exposure with video). Used stock settings and reduced points to only 40. I keep getting ghost images after stacking. What can I do to eliminate this? Thank You, Michal

Hi SGL, This is probably way too late but I only finished processing most of my images recently. Here are three during totality with an FS60 CB at F/10, Canon 5D Mk3, on a Star Adventurer, and the fourth was from playing about in Photoshop to make a sequence of the Diamond Rings from C2 through to C3. Taken from Fireside campsite, Wyoming. Thanks Tom.

My wife and I flew out to Sacramento from Little Rock where my son lives and drove a rental Kia up to the Willamette valley with him, and watched the gobsmacking event. It was never my plan to get stunning hi res photos of the eclipse, but to take in the whole thing, and document doing that. To this end I packed my iOptron SkyTracker Pro, matching iOptron ball head, a long-defective half of a small set of Simmons binoculars, some zip ties and the cheapest octopus type tripod imaginable all affixed to a steel T post. A light and cheap projector that let us see sunspots and the rough edges

Hello! I traveled to the USA with my partner to witness "The Great American Eclipse", as the locals called it. We first spent a few days in New York and then went on a roadtrip down to Nashville. Two friends joined us there, and we ended up going to Gallatin, Tennessee to watch and photograph the event. We set up our gear on a Walmart parking lot hours before the eclipse to avoid any possible traffic jams. The weather was great, and we saw the eclipse from start to finish. I photographed it using a Canon EOS 60D, 300/4L and a Star Adventurer tracking mount. I controlled the camera with Eclipse

I took about 80 pictures of the eclipse from Colorado, which didn't see complete totality, but it was close. What a sight to see and finally be able to image. This was my first time imaging the sun. I chose an image that showcased the sunspots a bit. I used my Canon T3i on my Williams Optics GT81 and Mach1 GTO mount. This single image was taken in Raw format and processed lightly in photoshop. I was super impressed to get the shots I did with the DSLR. I used a Thousand Oaks Solar white light filter. Wasn't able to see any prominences but that's ok, ill take it for my first try. I als

The Great American Eclipse!
orion25 posted a topic in Imaging - Widefield, Special Events and Comets
Greetings, all. I was fortunate enough to be able to comfortably drive to a location in the path of totality for the Great American Eclipse which happens to be the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina. The wide-field images were shot using a fully-zoomed 50-300mm lens attached to a Nikon D3200; the tighter images were shot through my 127mm Mak using a Nikon D50. I had to remember to abandon all filters during totality - and, of course - to just look up! Truly, a life-changing event. -
Hi, First entry to SGL here, I took this in Vancouver BC where we got 88% coverage, this is 151 exposures taken on an HEQ5 through a Nikon d5200 iso 100 @ 1/20 shutter speed with a manual f/6.3 500mm catadioptic lense and a 2x telextender once every minute. All shot raw and processed through Nikon's software where I tweaked sharpness, levels and a bit of colour than normalized with PIPP, animated as a GIF and stepped down to 500 pixels x 500 pixels the full size gif is about 250MB! I also shot about 90GB of 4K video which I haven't even considered how to process yet...

The False Dawn is an American band on the way to the Cherokee Reservation to play a music gig under the total solar eclipse, but they find misadventures along the way, threatening to make them late for the big event. It's taken from the audio book: THE FALSE DAWN - THE ECLIPSY GIPSIES. Enjoy!

As we have our monsoon season going on, sky's total cloudy from June to October. But surprisingly, we got little bit of clear sky, enough to observe the Partial Lunar Eclipse. This was my first eclipse to see through my telescope. Following are the photos of the eclipsed moon through clouds. P.s. I am not a photography person so Never mind for poor quality work. Instrument- skywatcher 90mm f/10 refractor and cellphone camera. *telescope goes back to hibernation* Happy monsoon!

Hello everyone! I'm new here. So my question or questions may sound kinda ignorant. The answers may be a little obvious. I love this site and have read so many comments and learned so much! Anyway, I have a Canon 60D camera with live-view. I have a Tasco reflector with D=114mm F=900mm(this maybe a little small?). I will be using a T-ring/adapter and with this I hope to capture many decent photos. But for the eclipse, do need a special filter for the scope or the camera or both? If so, could you give suggestions where to get this? Thanks to everyone for any help!

Hello all, I have been researching for the past two months what equipment I will need to buy to photograph the upcoming solar eclipse, I have everything under control except the goto mount. Because I am new to this, forgive me if I have made any false assumptions or have any misunderstandings. So after going back and forth with my short-term goals, long-term goals, and budget, I have decided I want an equatorial mount since I have read that alt-az mounts are not well-suited for 30~60 second exposures, due to image rotation. Although the price is a little higher, I figure it is wort

Last summer I spent some time playing around building a simulator to show what eclipses/transits will look like, customisable to any observing location on Earth. I was trying to work out which way up an eclipse would appear from my location, and found it surprisingly tricky without looking at a planetarium program. In case anyone's interested, my simulation of this coming weekend's penumbral lunar eclipse is here: https://in-the-sky.org/news.php?id=20170211_10_100 My simulations of other eclipses are here: https://in-the-sky.org/newsindex.php?feed=eclipses (I've done every eclipse fr

First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR all at SGL! Wishing you all a very enjoyable, prosperous and cloud free year. What are people's thoughts on the year ahead astronomically? I must admit I'm quite excited for the months ahead. There's quite a lot going on up there :-) 3 bright(ish) comets, two of these comets will be in the same constellation in April! All three should easily reach binocular viewing brightness. Then in August there's 'The Big One' if you live in America or are planning on visiting. Even though I wont witness it, I'm still intrigued as to how this will compare to t
