  1. Last Monday i called Ian (Ian King Imaging) & ordered the AZ EQ6-GT, picked the beauty up on Wednesday.........................WOW!!! I have read countless reviews on this mount, others as well, i always knew it would be an 'upgrade' but blimey what a step up from the CG5. The finish on the mount is very clean, precise & very pro looking, from the Alt/ Az bolts to the very nice dials, everything is much beefier & looks like it means business. As i don't go to dark sites i am only a back garden imager, i needed a mains psu that was upto the task & Ian ordered me this in :- at 4A output it should serve me well. As you can see in the photo i have only set the mount up indoors for a quick look / listen, the mount at full slew 9 is very very nice, if, when you were younger, you played with the old electric motor's from broken toys etc it sounded a little like that, not offensive at all, slewing all night long would not be a problem with this mount, you won't disturb anyone. Anyway as you can probably guess i am still grinning ear to ear & really pleased i chose this over the iOptron range (the 45 is good but can it beat this mount.............i doubt it). Gotta box it up now as until i have sorted some things out in the garden i wont be using it for now :-( Next years project is maybe a small obsy so i can pier mount this thing. Thanks to advice from SGL members, you know who you are, i think my astrophotography should improve this year even further. Clear skies all.

Update 16th June: I could not wait to tell people that I was just notified that my image of Omega Centauri will be published as a future NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day ( APOD ) - my first ever I will update the thread when they publish. ................................. A deep look at Omega Centauri ( NGC 5139 ) This image is an attempt to look deeply into the the Omega Centauri globular cluster by using HDR techniques to record as many faint stars as I can whilst retaining colour and detail in the bright stars, including at the core ... ............. Reprocessed to bring out more faint stars and to produce a smother transition between brightness levels. Effective Focal Length / Aperture : 1410mm f4.7. Mount: Skywatcher AZ Eq6 GT. Guiding: TSOAG9 Off-Axis-Guider, Starlight Xpress Lodestar X2, PHD2 . Camera: Nikon D5300 (unmodified) (sensor 23.5 x 15.6mm, 6016x4016 3.9um pixels). No filter Long Exposure noise reduction off Location:. Blue Mountains, Australia. Moderate light pollution ( pale green zone on darksitefinder.com map ). Capture: 9 sets of sub-images with exposure duration for each set doubling ( 1s to 240s ) all at ISO800. Processing:.   3. I have just acquired a very nice SH AZ EQ6 mount but have some questions please? I'm looking at getting the Altair Astro pier adaptor, does this work with my mount? For people that have already used this pier, what size bolt and pitch size is it, also what length of bolt is nominally used to attach the mount to the pier? And lastly due to having a cigarette power adaptor, what is recommended to use to power the mount? Is there a sky watcher mains power adaptor that you can buy?   4. Hello, I’m strongly interested in getting Mel’s (Astro Baby’s) tutorial for disassembling/fixing/reassembling the SkyWatcher AZ-EQ6 mount from Synta. I know it should be somewhere in East Midlands Stargazers website, but it seems to be unreachable. Maybe she also posted something like that in Stargazers Lounge. Could someone give me please some help to find it out or to contact Mel in order to ask her for it directly? I'm also looking for contacts with Scott Cunnington, author of a tutorial on the same topic I succeded in finding, with whom I would like to discuss some details of the proecedure. At a distance of 160,000 light years away from us, the Tarantula Nebula is so bright that it would cast shadows on the Earth if were as close to us as the Orion Nebula in our galaxy.
