hi all to those in derbyshire heres a online form to fill in to lower and dim street lights in derbyshire please fill in the form to help the cause
    http://forms.derbyshirepartnership.gov.uk/tempdocs/000001305/Part%20Night%20Lighting%20Questionnaire.HTM
do not forget we pay3.2 million a year dimming the lights would save 700,000 a year and lower DC COUNCILS CARBON EMISSIONS BY 3%
up to 75 % of the country as done this
crime and anti socail probs have not gone up or down
please fill the form in before 31st of july
    please
Derbyshire County Council is responsible for over 88,500 street lights, costing an estimated £2,713,214 in electricity last year and producing 18,000 tonnes of CO2 every year. That accounts for nearly 20% of the County Council's annual emissions of 92,000 tonnes of CO2.
also all councils have got to lower there carbon emissions by 25,000 tons per year they will get a fine of 12 pound per tonne for every one they over which will filter down to us via the council tax bill

    VICTORY

Hi all a victory for me after about 3 months of constant complaining to my local county council daily and to the local MP and to the governments environmental agency and the mp in the house of commons who deals with this .this morning a guy knocked on my door and announced that he would paint me 4 street lights out

and to point the ones out that caused me hassle ,after make in him and is pal a cuppa tea and got the good biscuits out for them we had a walk to the bain of my hassle.

about a hour later he came back and asked me to take a look I include the pics at the bottom of this post

my point is this do not give up street lights are a form of pollution and local councils by LAW have to act on this ,it is treated the same as fosil fuels and fertilizers that infect water and streams its all the same ,constant pressure on your local council should get you a result it may have cost me around 20 pound in letters and phone calls and two or 3 emails a week to the local mp and the guy in the house of commons

ring the local council and ask them to help mine where so so but your local mp should help I even went to the local parish council and put it to them who also helped

it cost me a few pints in the pub but they was on the case I am over the moon with thi

still this does not make things perrrrrrrrrrfect and dark sights are still 100 times better but for at least 95% of us can not do this every session

    STREET LIGHTS = 0 PAT 4

GREAT RESULT KEEP THE PRESSURE ON THEM

    CLEAR SKIES ALWAYS

hi all just had a quick go at M57 with the 12 " reflector iso800,7 x 5 sec subs 5 darks, dss, hers the result not great but its a start i cropped the first 2 pic because i could not got the dob base in the same place and the edges were jagged (after the stack)hence the crop am over the moon ,they not the best thats on sgl and that just keeps me going ,and to improve my skills, this curve is a large learning one not only getting to grips with 2 scopes a dslr camera and its setting the 10D and use in a corel paint pro 3x pluss all at once.its daunting at time any way my smile is massive thanks for looking
    pat
this morning seeing how dark the 1st ,2 pics where i added another with curves played about with to make a bit brighter

    HI all
well put MO1 out to cool and gave up the pics for tonight has i have not really had a good night with just the scope for ages the darkside keeps pulling me in and is such a pain .so why looking at brocchis cluster which did not fail to get the juices flowing ,after ticking of M71 as well , the old dumbbell neb was on the cards ive not seen it before till tonight after a few scans and pass in it by about five times ,i put the 0lll filter on the 32mm ep and ding ding there she was it looked a bit like a apple core a cartoon one as if some one had eaten the sides of i pushed it to the 17mm + 0lll filter and it looked great thats one to show my friends when they pop round to have a look .
lyra was next that little dohnut always grabs me and m56 is a nice glob tried for the veil neb but it just would not be so tonight, had a quick look at m13 m92 they where not so bright tonight ,hercules as lots to look at loads of doubles,
with take in the wide field shots over the last couple of weeks well about a month i had forgot about all the things i wanted to tick of my list my meisser list is go in great with about 30 now ticked of ,another look at the dumbbell and i was done
i am so glad i brought the 12" reflector every one was telling me not to get "a scope like that" because the size ect but MO1 gives me so much joy ,i feel like a explorer. i no how drake felt now when he was of do in is thing around the world,it humbles me to see these things in the night skies and can not explain in words ,how it makes me feel when i see some thing for the first time i may go on about this but you all no that feeling and it keep me going out every night to see them
    a very happy pat :)

    hi all
well i decide to start a wide field shot i intend o try and take 50x30secs every night i can of cygnus, and try and get a few hours of pics to stack stacking 20/30 subs is ok but after a chat with another sgl freind and he told me "he does not consider 6/7 hours of subs shot over a few days as nothing so here it goes a did about 30 x30 secs
heres the stack well the pic a bit of LP but i will kill those pics ,heres the pic so far will update once a have about 4 hours worth
    cheers pat
    iso800
    30sec subs
    28mm lense
    update 1st july
each new pics as x 10 more subs my editing skills are rubbish so could any one help me out on how to make them better also double clik and klik the pic again these were big pics
as you can see from pics 45 this is a result of dew on the lens and not check in every frame before you stack not just check in the score but also check each pic ,to avoid this the last pic is with the dew frames removed
    thanks pat

    The Moon
hi all i hope to shoot the moon tonight with MO1 (sw12"reflector)the skies look clear here and nothing on the radar map to show rain or cloud till 04:00 so happy days a did mod the toucam to spc900nc spec. then with wccrtl i flashed to raw mode special factory settings ,so no process of the video taken by the toucam
the spc880 flashed ect has special factory high color and brightness also a few other settings tweaked so will give them a whirl, also will try the filters out fingers crossed the count down is on
    **update
well got out there in the end took a bit of vid but the wind was beating me in the endthe dob base needs a tighten to loose any way i got the moon and some 5 sec shots of ring neb but a think they will not amount to much
the good thing was soon as a was ready to pack up and a saw a brightish star no its never jupiter back already ok it was around 03:30 and the light was breaking but a got some video yeah with planets over the top bright but will stitch it altogether this afternoon but jupiter she was great

hi all the most common private msg i get on sgl is,"how many seconds should i take ?" well basic wide field shots just on a tripod with no motors, piggy back or just stuck on a camera tripod its easy lets say you have a 28mm lens on the camera and lets say you want to do a basic wide field shot of ursa major.
so you shoot for 45secs and stars trail doh!
try this, the magic number is 600 :)
so i no my camera as a 28mm lense attached but not sure how long to keep the shutter open before trails apear
divide 600 by the lense of 28mm
    600 divided by 28 = 21.4 seconds
so lets round that of to say 21 secs and there you go
no i hear you say i can not set to 21 secs most dslrs will shoot at 20 secs so use that always go lower, never higher
a was in my local one night and a old drunk bloke told me that a took it with a pinch a salt tried it the next night worked a treat every time we see the old boy in the pub i always buy him a pint
so divide 600 with the lens size now if you have say a 70mm lens, 600 divided by 70 = 8.5,you will get a time before trails of 8.5 secs so the bigger the lens the less time to keep the shutter open, the smaller the lens the longer you can keep the shutter open more time
    cheers pat
    clear skies always

Hi all me and my daughter who`s 12 was just looking at some pics of Lyra we had taken the other night and out the blue, she sais "dad if god is true why can`t we see were he lives ?" me be in a non beleaver in any religion said am not sure because i did not want to push my view on to her, but it does bring to mind if religion was true and god created the universe .why would are planets out of zillions be chosen the other thing she said was that ,how did we start to worship a man when we had worshipped trees the sun and the moon again,i said am not sure but it does to me beg the thought that after looking up all religion is based on a person did we create the image of god on man ,or did god create his image on us ,in the end i spoke to elle about evolution and all that ,she said the next time we out side with the scopes she will have a look and why does the meade auto star handset does not show god this is tough because after looking at the andromeda galaxy.a wonder if they if life lives there worries about such things as this

Hi all well the night started great clear skies, and my first night out in a couple of days , well gave it 45 mins all kit out side ready to go .got out there and the cloud an wind wa blowing at around 13 mph a thought a will take a quick couple and get in ,no such luck at all the wind with the dew shield in place was really grab in the tube focus was a issue with the turberlence and the boiling moon video was out the window tried for about 30 mins and gave up a did want to try a few shots with the 2"sky watcher lpf ,it did nothing for me with a 2" ep but it worked well with the camera atached
the wind got the better of things and was bow in from the north east ,it wa not all bad the moon was dropping away to the west and the cloud robbed me of any thing else but its that ,that draws me out side every time i still never tire of the smallest thing to the biggest heres the link to photobucket if you wish to see these eforts
    cheers now pat

hi all well did a few shots last night but things where not ideal partly cloudy and dodge in the rest to get a few shots the skywatcher LPF filter was purchased of flo next day delivery as prompt as ever ,shot polaris because it’s a easy thing and that direction as the most sky glow sheffield is about 12 mile down the valley from me and its like a big open bowl spew in orange evil every were
I will have another try tonight as these pics were taken on the 21st april ,so we will see as tonight is clear and the out look is clear we have that smog drifting in on saturday so best make the most of it heres the link for the pics
    http://s473.photobucket.com/albums/rr93/todd8137/skywatcher%20LPF%20filter%20RESULTS%2012%20DOB/
this is just one of many tests but so far its made a dif here my light pol is not that bad may be 25% and most of that is towards my north any pics taken face in north get the orange glow to then paint shopable but would rather it not be there

  24. todd8137
hi all ,well last night thought a would take a few long expo`s of polaris to try and get a good star trail pic ,but to my supprise they turned out better than a thoght .for one they did not trail ok the time was about 2 mins not much of a chance there then, but i did get some good shots a will put the pics up in a minute on photo bucket the link will be there shortly ,apart from them all be in orange! any way i ordered a lpf filter, and it came this morning so a will try that a read alot about these type of filters and every one as diffrent skies so it was hard to judge so i went for the 2" sized one can not comment on how well it works as it only came this morning.any way
back to the pics,i took about 30 /40 altogether of polaris some good some bad tried dif settings to see what results a would getand the best was 1.35 mins and that gave the best out come to the picstonight a will do some more of the same and test the lpf out and get the pics to see the difference cheers pat enjoy they not so bad pics all were taken at
