I have the original FPL-51 version of the AT72ED, and I only see purple fringing up around 125x on bright stars.  I don't see it on the moon or planets at sub-100x powers.  It looks pin sharp and color free at low powers when scanning star fields, which is the main thing I use it for.  I haven't tried looking for color fringing on high contrast daytime targets like dark tree limbs against the bright sky.

I have a Kson 102 f/6 FPL ED scope. Even at f/6 chromatic aberration is quite well controlled. Seen my best views of a Jupiter shadow transit with it. It’s also really light and compact. An excellent travel scope.

now gets a little less use because of my TS Optics 90mm triplet.

  2. Bought a second hand scope, that the original purchaser got from Teleskop-Service.

Subsequently found that the little nylon screws that help secure the focuser had stripped heads.

Emailed TS and asked whether they had any in stock.

Got an almost immediate reply- Yes they had and they would send me replacements completely free of charge

    Arrive today and fitted perfectly.

    Thankyou Teleskop-Service!

  3. I use 10 X 1.2V rechargeables to power my Synscan AZ. Just go to Maplins and you can get a pack to connect then up.

I then used the connector from the supplied 8 X 1.5V pack to wire up. The 10 pack will just fit in the leather/plastic pouch provided.

I simply strap the pack to the base of the arm which holds the scope.

Gives me at least 4 hours power and eliminates "cordwrap" problems.

Also put a 5kg flat dumbell weight on the centre tray- this keeps things nice and steady and is OK to put your EPs on too.

  4. Took advantage of the Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday to finish off my eyepiece case. It's a cube-foam flight case off ebay, and I've installed some BIG red LEDs (from maplins). Quite chuffed with the end result, even if I do say so myself....

I use a bicycle rear LED light as well.

Glad to see someone else is "slumming it".

Do you hold yours with your teeth as well?
