Out in garden with scope it was 10.56 pm turned round looked up in east and....saw a massive fire ball coming overhead!! very low in sky, it was green with bits of red coming off it, a huge white tail with bits of blue red spewing off it AWESOME site, i dashed in house for camera but missed it has it disappeared west over the houses.

Well finished the pier mount for EQ5 head and bolted it on the scaff pole which is in a foot square of concreate......looks good .....but the vibration on top end is terrible!!! i even pored postcreat down the scaff pole to numb it out a bit. plan is a 2 - 3 inch pipe over the scaff pole and more concrete in.
Right ordered the 150mm flue liner pipe off e-bay £18 for 9 ft!! got it the next day!! very good service. i have chiseled 20 mm or so out for the pipe to slipe over scaff pole and concreated it a quarter of a way up, going to wait for that to set, then sink the box pier in to pipe set in concreate/ or post create quick set, thats the plan.
margarine tub fits nicely on the scaff pole to center the flue pipe.
Now its rock solid!! wants to be enough gears gone in it!!
well heres the scope on the peir

Hi, out last night for a few hours quite cool but clear sky's around 9 pm till 10.30 pm, never seen so many stars in Cygnus!! here in the city, i was most impressed!! did try the camera on the dob but failed miserably, even found the Globular cluster in Hercules which has eluded me for some time!! with the help of Andriod sky map held on the eyepiece, and it points telling you where to go!! cheaper than a go to!! LOL was disappointed!! just a gray smudge!! nothing like the pictures i have seen. mind you Andromeda was the same just a gray smudge. UP this morning 4.30 am to 5.30, wow so clear, out with the evostar, Venus, our crescent moon, Jupiter, Orion you could actually see the nebular with the unaided eye thats a first been in the city. Pleiades was... jaw dropping!! i have not seen it this good for ages!! Jupiter was very bright, had to filter it a bit to see bands better, Then loads dirty black clouds rolled in at start of dawn, ah well! crawled back to bed!! quite pleased with my self.

Hi, was out Tues night this week set up early, and waited for dark, was looking at Cassiopeia clusters on the bottom m tail half way down, thought i would put the eos 300d on and have a go at it.!! well what a pain trying to look though the small view finder in the camera and focus, i had to put Barlow in eos T ring for more mag, just could not see much. Took a few shots!! 001 frame dont know what this is suppose to be two clusters?!! i had to keep taking the camera out of tube and putting ep on to make sure object was still there and in some sort of focus.
004 loads of noise in this frame if you zoom theres a lot of hot pixels? that was 12secs
009 pic much the same just a red mass, again 12 secs.
using bulb exposure, remote switch, mirror lock up, raw mode, canon eos 300d with eos ring with Barlow screwed in and straight up scope barrel focuses tube. SO FRUSTRATING. I even bought the book "making every photon count" this suppose to be for beginners, i would hate to see the book for experts, talk about rocket science!! i am getting my head round it! slowly.

well finally hacked the canon eos 300d , for mirror lock up!! at last, been thinking to do this for months, i used the unduchable mod, i downloaded the canon software for update 1.11 and replaced the fir file1.11 in the down loaded folder with the unduchable one , just dont mix them up has there the same number 1,11!!, now then did all that but could not understand why it was not updating? you have to open the card reader cover then shut it to start the down load to the camera!! opps! did i forget to read that bit!! any way it asked me to press set button on camera and finished, went in to menu and custom functions were there!! mirror lock and raw image mode. just need a clear sky now, did set up last night but usual clouds rolled in at 10.30.

WELL i have abandoned this , i built it up, and to be honest it was 45 inches high and unstable and looked like a chimney stack!! i will put a pipe in to the concrete base, and fill with post create (fast setting) oh and make my own pier plate has there £45-55 each!! need two bottom and top . see other post in opps dont fit.

Having broke my back laying the base, joke, tried the EQ5 on tonight and one of the legs are hanging over!! can you believe it. Mind you some one did comment on " it don`t look like it will fit" DOH!! All his not lost!! i have a cunning plan!! i have been toying with the idea of building a brick pillar mount., Because i did not fancy dragging the heavy pod and eq 5 head out. watch this space! ive abandoned the brick pier job it was unstable at that height and looked like a chimney stack!!
right ive cut a hole in the cement and dug out 12 inch and concreted a scaffold pole in, being lazy and short on building supplies, thought i would use it.
right next plan is to put this box on top of the scaffold pole 50mm and bolt it, also going to put the pier on it .
and this on a double pier
with theses plates, the black ones about 8mm thick, a bit of welding required.

Got the new scope today, ordered Friday, got this am via fed x , good service fro FLO thanks martin. Now hope for some clear sky's, had a play at some chimney pots to align star finder scope, optics are very crisp and clear!! I don think the wife was impressed with the size!! with a comment "where you gona put that!!" tutting and shaking her head, "it was either this or a 10 inch dob!! i said" mind you the mount and head weighs a ton!! i already have a bad back!! just started with. I call the sky watcher OTA THE BAZOOKA. i have made a viewing platform which a cemented on Sunday hence the bad back, just needs base to harden off now.

nice full moon rising in east, bit of a orange glow, but soon went to white bright has it got higher set up the mak 90mm in back spare bedroom put eos 300 on and shot a few frames, the moon dont half shift and climb, ahh i have a eq1 motor which i put on iv`e had it a while but not used it ,now then getting the speed right was a little tricky, i did wonder if they actually work! and yes it does ! on the note of the new scope evoststar 120 not tried it yet, the Eq5 weighs a ton! hmm i may have to make a pier for it! don`t fancy dragging that pod outside all the time. thinking cap on . the secon image 002 has some object going across face of moon dont know if it was aircraft or progress 47p? has this has been due over, it was 9.30 ish when i took these.

After much deliberation between the sky-watcher skyliner dob 8 inch or 10, ive opted for the sky-watcher evo-star 120 on eq5, i know people say go for aperture but its storing yet another scope, and its size will be massive so ive read, iv`e had one of theses evo`s before and i sold it ,has i did not have a suitable mount for it. i could not afford it. i regretted selling it.

Well what a waste of time and money, i bet loads of us bought solar film to make a filter, but has usual the British weather did not play. I had to watch it on line via link in Norway, and Slooch web cam, which was good, the wonders of technology!! I managed to screen grab some images at 11.00pm and early this morning, 4.30 having looked out the bath room window east, but was low cloud and been raining.I wonder how many of us were geared up!! for a big let down.
ning.

hi, just peeked at Saturn the full moon has blanched it out if thats the right word,it looked really yellow, not sharp at all could see rings but no sharpness on body of planet, even on full power. waited for it to come up above houses. ah well ile, have to wait till moon buzzes off. Although the moon looked really sharp and BRIGHT good detailing.
