  1. I went out just now to see if it’s worth setting up for imaging when I saw a line of bright lights in the sky towards the west. What the bloomin’ heck is that? Then the penny dropped. Starlink! First time I’ve seen it. What an abomination! Anyway came in to get the bins and by the time I got out they’d gone. …… oh, and I’m not convinced it’s clear enough for imaging. Misty.
  2. Probably unrelated to your issue @mareman48 but I had some problems taking flats the other morning. It would take the first shot and preview and then the next preview wouldn’t happen, or only very very slowly. I couldn’t work out what was wrong but concerned not to somehow lose the previous night’s data I transferred all data off the memory stick. The memory stick was not anywhere near full but I emptied it out. When I reinserted the stick into the ASIair and restarted it was all OK. Problem gone. What that was about I have no idea. Maybe not be relevant to you if you’re not using a memory stick.
  3. Nice capture. I glimpsed out between the curtains at about 5:30 and saw the same lovely sight. Went back to bed though.
  4. Citizen Imaging! I like the sound of that. How would it be coordinated?
  5. How about trying it wirelessly standing right next to your ASIair, @mareman48? If it’s still slow that would at least rule out your wired LAN.
  6. Always more to buy, eh? I did have a good night looking through the data. I have yet to process it all. It was an all nighter on the flaming star nebula. Fortunately I was confident it wouldn’t rain, so I got a few hours sleep too. I was trying out my new dual band filter which hopefully reduced the affect of the bright moon. We’ll see.
  7. Fantastic, Lee. Lovely colour. I have seen the Aurora from Cornwall but nowhere near as good as that. More of an indistinct glow. Rather annoyingly I was out imaging on Friday night in Cornwall a few miles up the coast from you. I never thought to look North. There are trees obscuring the northern horizon, but a short walk up a track and I’d have probably seen it. It was bloomin’ cold though. -4° I measured at one point.
  8. Wow! Nice image. Who knew not Neptune had rings?
  9. I started dithering back in the day when I used a DSLR. I clutched at it as an alternative to taking darks, which seemed such a waste of good imaging time. I never missed taking darks. The data seemed to benefit from the extra data gathered and I just assumed dithering was helping. Now with cooled cmos I suppose I’ve just carried on with the dithering out of habit, plus I use a library of master darks taken during non-imaging time. I guess dithering looses me a bit of time per sub, but not much so I carry on with it. However, I haven’t had the problems the OP has.
  10. I’ve got one of those. I’ve never managed to get a sound out of it. 😄 😉
  11. As others have said, it makes no difference for guiding. It is very useful though when plate solving the finder-guider image for visual through the main scope. By comparison I have often found GoTo with star alignment intensely frustrating when the faint object is seldom anywhere near the centre of view, or visible at all even. Oddly enough though I have found it can be quite difficult to get the finder and main scope co-aligned.
  12. Hello @Mr Green. Nice image. I wish my early images had been as good as that one. I agree with @Elp’s comment. It would also be nice to know the type of camera you’re using and telescope.
  13. I'm trying out my recently acquired Askar Colour Magic Duo-Narrowband filter Ha +OIII 6nm. I want to see how it does against this Moon. The subs look OK. I'm imaging the Elephant's Trunk nebula. Two+ hours so far. Another hour is possible before it drops too low I think.
  14. Certainly is. I set up to image the elephant's trunk. Manual focusing was tricky and guiding is a tad jippy.
  15. Good question although at times the guiding on my ASIair has gone screwy when the object crosses the meridian. A reset and recalibration sorted it out though, and @psy1280 said he did that.
  16. Yes, so have I with the same mount, but not with my AM5.
  17. When is he planning to do this? Jupiter is now over 20 degrees from the Pleiades and the separation is widening.
  18. Beautiful symmetry. I like that.
  19. Yep. The hobby isn’t trouble shooting annoying problems is it? I am wondering whether it’s a software or a hardware problem? Everything is tight so it can’t be that. Though did you check the guide cam is firmly held in the guide scope? Is the mount working properly? ie Is the mount tracking as it should even without guiding? Could it be a drive problem I guess is what I’m asking. It might be helpful to at least rule that out. How are you controlling the mount with the Air? Wirelessly or cable? Maybe I’m clutching at straws there, but it might be worth swapping some cables out or changing how the Air is controlling the mount. How are you powering the ASIair? Erratic behaviour in AAs has sometimes been put down to insufficient power. You could try another power supply. Or at least check the supplied voltage against the App readings. Any possibility of trying another ASIair? Have you spoken to the supplier? Is it still under warranty?
  20. The ASI 120MM works for me. I’ve got two of them. PS I should add I don’t use the WO Uniguide. I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t work. The ZWO has a 1.25” nose piece and, as I recall, an extension comes with it if required ie if the focal plane is too far out from the telescope.
  21. Most of my favourites focus on processing in Pixinsight. Adam Block obviously stands out. I have also been watching a lot of the videos made by Sascha Wyss in the View into Space channel. I enjoy Cuiv the Lazy Geek vids too. They make me chuckle.
  22. Ah, yes. Doesn’t it look different? You’ve pulled up sone faint nebulosity around the edge. Nice. Is the background sky just a little green? Might be worth masking the nebula and applying SCNR to the background?
  23. Thanks for the explanation.I need to get into all this. As for background I see what you’re saying, but I’m not sure it matters. If anything because the nebula is so much the majority of the image the dark background makes a useful contrast. But it might be interesting to see what the image looks like with a less ‘clipped’ background.
  24. Lovely image. Very nice detail along the left edge and in the dark feature. Sorry for my ignorance, but I’m only just starting to get into dual band AP. Is that an HOO image with Ha red and OIII green and blue?
