I had the privilege of being lectured by him at Queen Mary College, London in the late 70's and also met him during that time.
I also saw him hold a audience of non-astromers spellbound at the same college when giving a talk on astronomy.
A true amateur who suceeded in the world of professionals. Words cannot express the effect he has had for amateur and professional astronomers.
His loss will felt by many but especially by me.
"No more Mr Night Sky"
RIP Sir Patrick.

I've got 3 Maplin Flight cases. They seem to do the trick. I managed to get some foam from a local market stall. Cost about a fiver.

As always, useful advice.
Thanks to all who replied.
One last question, does anyone know the mass of the primary cell in kg for a 10" Skywatcher?
Or even approximately?

Thanks guys,
A couple of further q's
1) Does removing the 6 screws mean the "cell" will drop out?
2) Is it easy to put back?
3) Am I likely to regret doing this at any point?
I would like to flock the lower tube of my flextube but would rather have a functioning dob without flocking rather than do anything harmful to the primary!
Thanks

Hi All,
Does anyone know of an idiots guide to removing a skywatcher 250 dob primary mirror, preferably with photos?
Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for that. Since I got my moonlight focuser I can see a lot more detail on Jupiter.
Does UT = BST -1?
Also if you compare Sirius's site here
Jupiter Great Red Spot (GRS) transits
With Sky and Telescopes here
Great Red Spot Transit Table 2011-2012 - SkyTel Beyond the Page - SkyandTelescope.com
and Jodrell Bank's data here
The Night Sky September 2011 | Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics
(down the page a bit)
On Sept 9th late one they give 21.15, 21,17 and 22.45 when converted to UT
Why such a variation?

Hi All,
Does anyone know a link to a website that gives the transit times of Jupiter's GRS for the UK now and into the future?
Thanks

Cheers for that. As simple as.

What I mean is that I could set lat and long correctly but point the telescope so Stellarium thinks its pointing North but it is in fact point east. therefore whereever Stellarium skews to it would be inaccurate.
I have a Skywatcher Synscan goto. I can align it using 2 star align, what I want to know is how do you link Stellarium so it recognises that's what you've done.

Hi there, Right, I've got all the leads, I've selected the right COM port and I can get the scope to move around by using Stellarium. One last problem how do you align the scope so that when you move it in Stellarium the telescope will go to the right place in the Sky? I can set Lat and Long but how do you tell Stellarium which direction in the sky it is pointing to? Thanks Simon

Because people come to astronomy at different times they need to ask questions that are pertinent to them at that time. Although there may be other similar questions that have been asked before it is not obvious where to find the answer even if you search. We have to bear this in mind when a similar question comes up - it is important to that person at that time. I love SGL because you will always find someone who will give you good advice no matter how often the question has been asked. As people grow more experienced they can then pass their knowledge onto the newer members asking those similar questions.
