  6. Hi Guys, To summarise then, with my alt az 8se SCT which I understand is also limited to short exposure times, I could in therory not bother with a more high end camera, which my scope would not benefit from, and use this camera to do some DS imaging instead? Ps If so, do you think I could capture some colour images of DSO's? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. One brick, and a good aim Only joking, I think the poor governmental financial position seems to at least have one silver lining... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Going to give it a go, which will be 3 nights on the trot! Unheard of! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. This is exactly what I saw last night! They were orange and fast! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. A few people on these forums have linked dark sky area maps and I'm sure there is probably one near you, it is definitely worth the trip. When I first saw it I thought it was a very high cloud then as your eyes get accustomed to the dark you see more and more detail. Ps get some bins and look around if you do manage to see it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. These objects were travelling "extremely fast!" I doubt birds or lanterns Anyway it's now 12.48am the street lights are out and the it's so so quiet apart from the odd fox. The milky way is very clear, my scope is tracking Andromeda and my coffee is hitting the mark. I have a big smile on my face Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Or someone sneaking whiskey in my thermos! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. 23rd July 2012 23.43pm (just now!) 5 or 6 orange lights grouped together travelling extremely fast travelling in a north to north east/easterly direction!!! The lights seem to be moving around each other as well. Very cool whatever that was!!! Ps observer from Suffolk. PPs I was looking up at the sky just about to star align to Navi at the time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Sounds like a few other people had fun too The veil is now definitely on my list to see next. Right better get that shirt sorted, have a good day! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. From the Ring nebula to M10 then on to the Wild duck cluster and more it has been a great night to observe and not too cold either. Unfortunately, with work in the morning I have had to pack up and I've just remembered I need to iron a shirt!!!! Goodnight from Suffolk Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  18. Very very good Martin Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Hiya, Grey blobs! Seriously though I would recommend you get the book "Turn left at Orion" as that shows you realistically what you can see with and 8in scope. If you can find a dark site then some of the the messier objects are great to observe (may need a UHC filter). The great thing about the 8se is it's portability and as its a alt azimuth it only take 10 mins to set up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Was in town yesterday and this saw this padded case at Maplin reduced from £34.99, which might be of interest to some of you. So starts my long road to acquire an ok'ish eyepiece/filter set (I'm in no rush), anyway took some photos the foam is already pre-cut into squares making it very easy to shape. 21. I was in the garden with the scope and heard the church bells chime for 12 o'clock. On the twelve chime all the street lights went out! Caught me by surprise for a few seconds (watching too many horror films...), but the skies got even better Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. The BBC big read top 100 list was a good challenge at work and contained some fantastic books, we manage to pool our books together and get most of the list for people to read and tick off. I am currently reading The Stainless Steel Rat omnibus (sci-fi) by Harry Harrison and have just bought Turn left at Orion which is just a great book that shows what you really will see with a telescope. 23. Rain is chucking down here in Suffolk and sounds like its going to be cloudy in the morning, so watching the ustream live pictures. The look good but I need my sleep nn Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
